My credo
Its probably better to be self deprecating than self defecating.
Anybody have one? Anyone get all hurt on one "back in the day"? Surely somebody has a story, let's hear it.

I have a 1980 Honda atc 110. Got it in trade a few years ago.

The original motor gave up the ghost after a few rides, so I bought and started to swap in a 125cc 4spd manual trans China pitbike motor. Life got in the way and it ended up sitting for 3 years.

Just two days ago I was far enough into the process of selling it to a buddy where it was loaded up and ready to go to a new home.... buuuuut then I fell back in love with it and told my buddy (apologetically) to kick rocks.

Now I'm all riled up to finish it. Its totally clapped out besides a brand new motor.. but hopefully before the end of the year I'll have it trying to kill people again.

Biggest hurdle is notching the frame so the intake manifold will fit, and then bracing the frame. Other than that its just: wheels, smaller tires, bars, seat cover, 400ex hubswap... easy peasy right?

The one I have for my 110 is actually out of a 90, 125 has a cool ring to it.

We had a '81 110 growing up, ran it until it had no compression. Didn't know mom sold it for $15 on a garage sale until after the deed was done.

I had to lift one off my buddy about 20 years ago. He crashed and the foot peg went through his calf. It wasn’t pretty.

I had a honda 200. Loved it! was very well-worn though, smoked worse than a 2-cycle (which it wasnt). got it for free, had a bad coil which I found a used one on ebay. Id rather have a 3-wheeler than a quad. those huge ballon tires that each have their own path, you only put down 10 pounds per square inch! you can drive across ground that you could never walk on. They still bring money, found a yamaha tri-moto at a yard sale over labor day- they wanted $1000. Chances are if I were to get anything it would be a dual-sport, a street-legal trail bike. My back cant take a all-out dirt track but Id love a mild trail ride and it would be nice to ride on the road if I needed to run into town for something small. Work commute is out of the question, I see deer nearly every day.

3 wheelers have the wrong number of wheels.

They seem to be out of stock on that website, but I'm sure ebay/Amazon has some. I bought mine from ebay a good bit cheaper.

It will require frame modifications, simple ones to mount the motor.. more extensive for the intake manifold. Ill do my best to document what needs done for the intake.

My boss has the same story lol, only through his foot.

My grandpa had a 79 or 80 110 on his farm in Northern Wisconsin. from the 4th grade until the mid 90s everytime I went to visit I would take it out on the logging trails.

When he passed in 2009, my uncle Larry took the three wheeler, it did not run for several years by that time.

some memorable moments... first time riding, in the 4th grade, i goosed the throttle and it promptly reared up and nearly dumped me off of it. hit a medium size hill with the back wheel. flipped over and dumped me off.

several years later I discovered the two speed rear end which had always been set in "low". fixed that issue and took it out on the farm's drive which was a gently curved 3/4 mile lane. that was a blast. Now how the farm is set up, the Barn, Machine Shed and my uncle's house formed kind of a court yard. just before getting into that court yard, there was a gate that ran parallel to the right side of the road to one of the pastures. Grandpa had two electric fence lines that could be run across the drive to funnel cows into the barn for milking. usually they had little bright colored fabric strips tied to them so you could see it if you were coming down the drive in your car.

I hauled out of the courtyard with my new found high speed rear end and the fence was down. ran to the end of the drive and came back full throttle highest gear. minor problem. the gate was up. I did not see the wire until I was about 5 feet from it. I hit the brakes(hard!) at about the same time the three wheeler went right through the first gate (snapped the wire) and was probably into the second one by the time the brakes started to slow me down. that one was yanked off its hook. talk about scare the crap out of me. I was probably 13 at the time

Fun fact: Grandpa told me the correct air pressure for those balloon tires is 2psi.

Damn I miss that three wheeler.. there really isn't anything fun like that that can kill or seriously injure you anymore :)

I had a Honda CR250, but my cousin had a 3-wheeler. We were riding down a dirt road side by side one time talking, I looked in front of me, and then back at him and he was gone. Looked back and he was upside down in the ditch.

I plowed in to the lawn tractor one day with it. Learned that they don't turn very well when you're going fast. :not_i:

Those tractors are a fun time if you like to look at the sky while you plow.

3-wheeler's are just as safe as the driver operating them. That doesn't mean the driver necessarily has to be safe. It's all about weight distribution.

This is true of pretty much anything. Unfortunately humans are still mortal so that doesn't mean much...
