3-wheelers

You know...i think 3 wheelers do get a bad rep. I think it had to do mostly with the greedy dealers at the time selling adult sized machines to parents for their kids. Theres a whole dateline thing about it on youtube. I cant see how the machines would be any more dangerous then anything else.
Try doing do-nuts on a 3 wheeler, then try them on a 4 wheeler. You will instantly see that the 3 wheeler wants to tip over. I said "donuts" but all you really have to do is a sharp turn. The inner rear wheel on the 3 wheeler wants to lift off the ground too soon, causing roll-overs. My step-brother had one of those Red, white and blue Honda 3 wheelers, he got it into a flat spin with me on the back. When he went to take off, the front wheel raised up and we got dumped off the back, lol. He is 12 years older than me and a large fella, but he was able to maneuver to the point where he didn't crush me. He eventually traded that one for a yellow one.
About a decade later, my dad was trading with a buddy, and got a 1st gen Honda (300 or 350 ???) 4 wheeler. It still had the frame of a 3 wheeler that had been modified, by Honda, to accept the front fork for a 4 wheeler. It had the turning radius of a cruise ship compared to the actual Honda 350 4 wheeler he got so he and my stepmom could ride together.

My 500 polaris on 27' zillas aint got the nuts for a donut lol.

I dont have alot of 3 wheeler ride time....but i dont know i never felt unsafe on one.

However neither the 3 or 4 wheeler came close in safety, or capability as my Max II 6x6 had, it just had other annoying trade offs

Agreed on the safety issue. That's why sideXside's are taking over the ATV market.

Weight transfer is key.

We rode ours with our dad, with and without a sprayer on the back. It wants to lift the inside tire so lean to the inside.

We never had a problem with ours rolling but you had to work it. You can't just sit there expect it to do it for you.

That and they are easier to get in and out of, seat more than one and can haul/tow more. We watched a single seater (like a SXS but a single seater... fancy go-cart?) go airborn, plow thru a tree and come to rest on its side at the roundup. Nobody got hurt. Guy is strapped in a cage with a helmet, all but in bubble wrap for safety.

But then a local guy last saturday drove his Ranger off a terrace for some reason and was killed over the weekend. Guessing no seatbelt and harvest is in full swing so probably "just going over there, no big deal"

I wanted to get my wife a sportsman so we could ride togther. But then she showed me a pic of a rzr and said "why cant we get this?"

My thing with side by sides are the price...and the fact you might as well just get a jeep. Athough i did find the 50 inch 570 rzr for 9300msrp. I just wonder what a pooch itll be.

Eh.. they're definitely more dangerous than a bike or a quad, especially for someone with little experience with powersports.. but definitely some government overreach banning them imo. The trikes they COULD be making nowadays would be awesome.

But I mostly agree, an action is only as safe as the operator cares to make it.

If your bike needs a tag axle... you might need to make some lifestyle choices.

So tippy... so now they just make them bigger.

UPDATE on my 110 though, bought some bars, grips, new throttle, and a bar pad. Just need to get some bar risers and the controls portion of the project is finished.

Gonna try giving it a bit of racing flavor with the classic red/white/blue/gold color scheme that was frequent on the 250r's

1. A sharp turn on a 4-wheeler will roll you up too, just not as quick. Thing is if you properly throw your weight in a 3-wheeler you're probably less likely to roll. Weight helps on the 4-wheeler too, but it's harder to compensate because of the heavier machine.

Correct.

I disagree, but that's all opinion anyway.
I will agree that you do need a reasonable understanding of physics to ride any of them.

I’ve owned so many dirt bikes, 3 wheelers, quads, and a SxS over the past 40 years or so... the 3 wheeler is the least forgiving of a mistake.
