wondering, right know i have 3.55 gears, would going to 3.73 or 4.10 increase my millage for city driving? 5 days a week my truck doesn't go above 40mph, but friday ev to sun i run about 80mph and i don't know weather its the winter blend gas(85 octane)(new to north) or my 3.55 gears. would a manual tranny increase milage?

so what do you guys(gals) think,

this is on a 06 f150 with the 4.2l v6 and auto, kinda stuck in it so i thought id ask

3.73 really isn't a significant difference when compared to 3.55's but 4.10's would deffinately help around town. You'll be spinning the motor pretty good on the highway but you can always drive a little slower.

Manual Tranny's are always better:D With a six cylinder in a full sized, lower gears will ease the load on your engine, and may very well help with mileage. 3.73's will be marginal. But you'd feel the difference with 4.10's.

I regeared one of my XJ's from 3.55's to 4.10's, definitely made it more responsive. Highway mileage dropped slightly, but city mileage improved, I guess it all depends on what you are doing...
