i bought a new ranger couple weeks ago and messed it up bent a rod and i found a site called everdrive with a replacement motor for 1600 dollars. has anyone heard of these people if they are reliable? is there another place to get a new motor? i have about pulled the motor out and 1600 seems pretty good cause there is no point in puttin this old motor back in with out replacing bearings and everything plus gasket sets and i just think a new motor would be easyier and better for the long run.

what year is this truck? 1600 bones is a lot to drop on an older truck.

the 3.0 is a reliable and very common engine, a junkyard motor is always an option. you dont always need to open a junkyard motor up and rebuild it before dropping it into your truck (if you were going to do that, you could just rebuild the engine thats already in the truck). i like to hear it run, inspect the oil and coolant conditions, get it up to operating temp, and do a compression test...if it passes all those then it gets dropped right in.

if you have another ride. id swap in a 4.0 get a old block 10 10 10 rebuild maybe some small motor work while its all apart. if your feeling spunky. 30 10 10 rebuild. lil higher comp. a hot cam under drive pullies. a new prom 5 speed. do it right while you have it apart.

a 4.0 swap would require a new transmission, wiring harness, and PCM. plus he wouldnt get the gas mileage the 3.0 gets.

not worth it IMO. if your going to go through the trouble of swapping the entire engine, transmission and engine controles, just to loose fuel economy...you might as well go for a v8 swap and get some decent power out of it..

a 4.0 swap would require a new transmission, wiring harness, and PCM.

all parts that can be gotten at a junk yard if need be and all oem parts. with no real modding needed.

the stock 06 4.0l ranger makes 207 hp.
the ford V6 4.2 makes 202 hp
4.6 v8 makes 248hp
5.4 v8 makes 300 hp

my 2 cents, a lil work to the 4.0l thats all simple stuff could easly put out 250hp maybe more. with no custom moding and all off the shelf parts.

but thats my way of thinking.:dunno:

That's not the OHV 4.0. That's the OHC 4.0.

The OHC isn't really an option to be swapped in as a OHV 4.0.

OHV 4.0 = 160hp

its a 1999 truck and ive added it all up and i dont wanna rebuild my motor because it has a 110k miles on it and if imma take it out to replace one rod imma do all the bearings and timing chain and all that stuff and i think that will run me over 1000 if not more by the time i do all that so 1600 seemed pretty good and i could still keep that motor for parts i just didnt know if that company was reliable or not or if there was a better spot to get one i dont have a lot of junk yard options near my house and this place ships the motor in a week no shipping charge and if i had the money for a 302 swap i would but im limited on budget so i couldnt swap tranny and all to run it

SOHC (2001 - 2007) (VIN Code E) 4.0L hp rating 207

shouldnt be to hard to find :dunno: numbers came right from the tech page

110,000 miles is still a baby...that would be an excellent candidate for a rebuild as it'll take less work than a high mileage engine. it shouldnt cost you more than $5-600 to rebuild that motor including all machine work.

the only engine remanufacturing company that i have experience with is jasper, and they do excellent work...but a 3.0 long block from them will cost about a grand more than this company you found.

does this company offer any kind of warranty for its motors?

a 4.0 swap will cost money...especially a SOHC 4.0. junkyards know what those engines are and they dont let them go for free. with his truck being a 98+, a 5.0 swap from an explorer is nearly bolt-in and will provide almost the same mileage as a 4.0 with a 21% increase in torque plus MUCH better aftermarket support.

well i would love to go with a 5.0 swap if i dont have to change tranny and computer and all but the company i found had a 3 year unlimited milage warranty and i might just use my old motor for spare parts and maybe rebuild it. my old truck i was gonna get it bored out however you spell it...and run a bigger cam and get a new crank and all and bore it from a 360 to a 408 is that possible for these motors? i know very little about ford motors i have ran dodges all my life

a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty s a great deal...id take it.

you can bore and stroke any motor...its just a matter of how deep your pockets are. most v-6's have very poor aftermarket support (the 3.0 included), so you'll end up paying the same or more for v6 parts as you would for v8 parts...but the end product wont make nearly as much power as an 8. IMO, the only power booster thats worth the money is forced induction.

well i looked on that site i can get the 5.0l 302 400 dollars cheaper then the 3.0 what all has to be changed for the 5.0 swap? if i can do that for only 1500 more or so i might take that road.

Thanks for the help to

just got done reading all that i found it after i posted thanks for all the help it will cost well over 3000 for the 302 swap i would love that but i got a kid on the way so i cant do that right now im gonna just get this motor and maybe sell mine or bore it and everything and drop it in when my new one goes to hell cause im sure ill mess it up i went through 3 trucks in 2 months so far but thanks for the advice

the 3.0 IMO is hard enough to get back in that engine bay , i have a 2000 and am currently replacing the 3.0 , i have heard of everdrive , i work at autozone , and that is the company that we get our engines from , what you prolly dont realize is that you are payin 1600 for an engine that you could do yourself , everdrive sells salvaged components that have been rebuilt , so basically you are dropping 1600 for an engine that maybe had 150k miles on it like mine did when it died , and they just went through and rebuilt it

i would rebuild yours , mine to rebuild was gonna be 900 at most , but i got a good deal on a used engine , half the price of the rebuild , and i saved my old engine for a later frankenstein project:stirthepot:
