How come so many people i know hate the 3.0L motors? I know a few people who work at a shop and they wont even touch the 3.0L's because supposedly they have a lot of problems.

There are guys on here that wouldn't trade for any other engine.. The 3.0 is the same as all other engines in failure from this or that..
The ONE thing it does different is it LIKES to clatter... But that same liking does make a bit more power...so it is a trade off in my opinion.
Big JIm

NEVER had a problem with mine. the only thing is the oil filter is a %&$#ing pain to get to.

People hate them because they only have slightly more power than the newer 2.3L and get the same gas mileage as the 4.0L. Having said that, they are very reliable, aside from the Cam Sync issue. I have heard that about the oil filter too, but I have also heard that it's not as bad with RWD as it is with 4WD. In the Taurus, they don't seem to be as underpowered, and get pretty good gas mileage - old EPA ratings were as high as 20 City/30 Hwy for a 3.0 at one time.

Man are they ever, and it spills oil all over everything trying to get it out. But I also love mine, I get great mileage out of it, and its running strong at 260 000 km and counting

The oil filter is easy to change with the engine out of the truck:thefinger:

i here people say they are underpowered, not worth the maintenance, and bad off road motors. i completely disagree, well it is a little underpowered, but that can be fixed. i wouldnt trade my 3.0 for anything. also about that oull thing, i found if you pull the front up on ramps and let the truck sit for about 5 min and let all the oil drain out you dont get the mess

Keep the R's up and it isn't that bad on power. Mine has 157k miles and runs stronger than ever and uses about a 1/2 quart of oil every 5k miles.

thats normal oil consumption. my engine overhaul teacher said 1/2 a quart every 3000 to 4000 miles is normal. even for a freshly rebuilt or new engine

I forgot to add, my biggest complaint with the 3.0 is the oil filter.

Seems like around 3k is it's "sweet spot" lol

i love my 3.0l for its reliability and simplicity (OBD1 94'). i think the 3.0l got a bad rap because there were so many of these engines produced in so many models and there are so many people out there who dont perform regular maintenance on their stuff that repair shops are bound to see alot of these in all different forms of ****ed up (mainly cooling problems). im not too big a fan of the ford focus but its because ive seen so many neglected examples that i just dont want anything more to do with them. they are fine cars if maintanined, but if you slip up on something as simple as checking the air filter the bolts on the air box get rusted and you cant get the screws out. wtf?

My 3.0 is great!
22 mpg and moves fine even with 31" tires
I put the oil filter in through the wheel well no problemo
and I hear they last to 200,000 miles like many good engines and are reliable.
whatever I'm happy and if I ever have a problem then hello 5.0 :)

the oil filter on mine is one of the things I like better about it. Oil on it is sooo much easier to change than it was on my 05 Civic. Couldn't even see the filter on it when it was time to change and unless you parked it on ramps overnight there was oil everywhere!
