I'm doing a 2wd to 4wd swap on a 89 extended cab. I have a identical parts truck. But I was wondering if there is a difference with the coil spring towers? The ones on the 2wd are perfect condition. And help with this or any other any advice on doing this swap is greatly appreciated

You need to swap the crossmember that goes under the engine (pita). This is why most just recommend buying a 4x4 truck to begin with instead of converting a 2wd.

The need to swap the cross member isn't the reason it is usually recommended to just buy a different truck so much as the fact that the member is riveted and welded into the frame and the engine has to be removed to get at it.

If you want to lift it a few inches a D30 SAS is a good option.

The cross member doesent concern me. If I could find another ranger in as good of shape I would buy one already 4wd but my 2wd is almost perfect underneath not even any rust flaking anywhere.
