2WD Locked 99 Ranger project

I seem to be going back and forth on these carrier but i ruled out the detroit or any full time locker for this. I just dont see good things with snow involved. so im going for a detroit trutrac. it seems to suit my needs better. one thing i must ask is if this carrier needs the cross pin? maybe i have a bad idea of what a cross pin is but i think its the pin that goes into the carrier from the side of it to hold in the gears (in the stock diff). the detroit does not seem to have this hole so do i need it? if that isn't the cross pin then what is?

Instead of getting a notched cross pin shave off a little bit of one tooth on the ring gear. It's in the thread I posted on page 1. If you ever check out any Mustang forums, you will find they also upgrade from the 7.5 to the 8.8. It's not always because they are trying to push 500 hp either.

well, seems to me that im gonna stash a real amount and go for a 4x4 vehicle to use it as a dedicated wheeler
i wish u luck with your build man:icon_thumby:

I got some unexpected progress done on my truck today. not in the drive line but in the sound department.

Sadly no stores open today so i cant install it today. But tomorrow things look good. No subs (yet) but it should be a lot better.

I wish. The detroit got back ordered but i did get some subs ordered as well so that will be nice. Im going to pull the jump seats and build custom boxes to go in thier place.

I want to pull the trans and engine as well but i have no reason to justifiy doing it yet. So in this way i hope something breaks that will make me have to. They need rebuilt tho.

Pics of the stereo so far...

Found out that the previous owner pulled of the weather shields partially and didn't glue them back...

Subs should be in monday or tuesday and ill grab some pics of that. Hopefully by the time im done the detroit will be in.

im not going to forget lol. Anyways does anyone know of a place i can get black gauge panel with blue led lights as well as the one for the AC?

The only ones i can find are white and that is not going to look good imo. Or is there a way to take the old plastic off and remove the green coloring from the parts the lights shine through and ill get my own blue led lights?

Door locks... My auto door locks haven't worked since i owned the truck. should i get oem ones or are there after market ones that dont break cuz this seems like a big problem with early 4th gens.

Antenna, who makes a good replacement antenna for rangers? i found ones like the stock one but i dont like the stock one. i would like to find a shorter plastic one or one that pushes down into the truck when i go wheeling.

Summit said that they arent expecting to get the shipment of detroits in till late next week and then they have to ship it to me so i might as well get some of the little stuff done while i wait..

for the blue leds, seems like u can remove the green film and use replacement leds, check the gauges or lightning section, many guys have done it.
my bro has a truck like yours and his locks wont work too. i guess aftermarket ones would be a good choice.
antenna, maybe an electric one??

Well my friend gave me this idea and im not sure its been done but its in consideration.

has anyone done a lightning version of a ranger? It may be out there but maybe 302 v8 with all the mods in the world plus lower it and get the lighting decals.

What would you guys think of that? then i could get a 4x4 2nd gen thats much easier to use for 4x4 mods and use that for wheeling.

good plan too:icon_thumby: but ull need it to be reg cab and flareside to be a lightning :D
2 cool trucks is better than 1 cool truck :headbang:

More progress?

As for the HVAC controls, remove it and pop the clips off. It's a two piece housing. Seperate it and you can remove the green film, I can get a picture of what it looks like with blue LEDs if you'd like.
