2wd-->4x4: tranfer case.

No biggie, I've been corrected myself. I wasn't trying to correct you, just give the correct information:icon_thumby:

so cammeddrz, are you saying i could just use my trans and run a really short drive shaft to a divorced np205(for example) and then have driveshafts going to the differentials? i dont know anything about tcases so im trying to figure out how i can do this, or which one to use, and all that.

its not really a driveshaft imagine a yoke (like at the transmission end of your driveshaft with a u-joint attatched) that has a u-joint attatched to just another yoke instead of a driveshaft. so 2 yokes held together with a u-joint (the driveline shop can make one for you), but you'll need to drill some holes in your frame, get some channel or something to bolt across your frame to be a cross-member for the t-case to sit on. but any divorced t-case that drops the front driveshaft on the correct side would work. and then you just take the driveshafts that match the t-case and have the driveline shop shorten them to the correct length, and install the correct yokes to match your axles

oh i gotcha. but i was thinking about this(idk if it works its just a thought) to keep it on the simple side, could i just remove the tail housing on my 2wd tranny and bolt on a manual tcase from the same year 4x4 tranny?

I do believe it is not that simple. i think the tailshaft is different either in length or spline.............

also i have never seen the bolt-pattern on the t-case be the same as the end of a 2wd auto trans cone.

oh damnit lol there is an 88 bronco 2 in a nearby junkyard and it has a bw1350 manual. is there anyway that one of those would work or is it considered a married tcase

There is no eassy or simpler way to convert a 2wd trans to 4wd other than to replace the output shaft with a 4wd output shaft, remove the 2wd tailhousing, install the correct tcase adapter and then install the tcase....on a divorced case you use a very short dshaft, ujoints on both ends, to connect the 2wd trans to the tcase, then dshafts to the axles...

im thinking im going to do a divorced case. i dont quite know witch one to use maybe a np205 manual. how much do you think its going to run me to get that yoke-ujoint-yoke to the case and then some custon shafts??

it will be easier to get the shafts to match the t-case and have the right yokes attatched. it cost me about $120/shaft to have them shortened, balanced, and the right yokes attatched with all new u-joints installed.

and i have no clue about your intermediate shaft between the trans, and t-case but i'd bet its less than that by a long shot.

if you have a 4.0l, a married broncoII trans/t-case will bolt up to your engine.

either way a married trans/t-case matching your engine/year of truck just couldn't be more than $500 either from a junkyard or classified ads.

yeah that sounds resonable, im not sure exactly what year fords have the np205 but if i find it its would be good. its a large debate, im just trying to convert it to 4x4 the cheapest way. either a divorced case or just a new tranny and tcase, whichever is cheaper. idk how hard its gonna be to find a 4x4 tranny for a 02 3.0 around where i live. and would the tcase be electric?:bad: and if i did happen to run across a 3.0 4x4 tranny, would it be plug and play?
