I'm getting a 283 SBC! :yahoo: for $100! and I'm gonna stick it in an 87 ranger with a blown 2.0 that im getting for $300! :icon_hornsup: on friday,
well anyway are there any adapter plates so I can use the TK5 tranny with the 283? and what kind of motor mounts should I use for the engine and the all important question what kind of radiator should I use/take from a u-pull-it?
and I dont mind fabricating some parts I just don't have a full shop to use :icon_welder: :bawling: oh well at least i'm in a barn lol

wtf is up with all the chevy motors all the sudden

Your gonna build the 283, right? Punch that thing out 125 thousands to a 301, healthy cam, good set of heads, and that lil' SB will SCREAM all the way to 10k rpms!:icon_surprised::yahoo:

I'd take a 283 or 327 any day of the week!!!

Yes sir!!! Totally right there with ya.....would LOOOOOVE a screamer in a street truck!!!

I'm just gonna build it up a little but all it needs is a carb, and a set of rings to get running and I'm thinking of running it and saving up some cash then building it up later but yea I can't wait to get it and start! :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

i say go for it. look at my thread "just plain stupied, doing a sbc swap w/blackwidow" for ideas and pics

i dont see what the big deal is. its kinda nice to see a question about something other than, "whats the fastest and cheapest way to put a 302 in my ranger"

frankly, as long as its a v8 ranger, i couldnt care less what engine was in it. but thats just me.

my dream enigne swap would be a chevy 348/409, a ford y-block (ex-272/292/312) or a buick nailhead engine

i would love to see someone do that. if time and funds were availible to me. i would do a 425 nailhead, bored 0.030 over, and hope the ranger could handle the torque :icon_surprised:

ok to clear up the questions

1. no adapter plate to bolt up the manual that i know of.

2. motor mounts can go a couple of ways, the best i found are frame and engine mounts from a 1962 chevy impala with the 5.3, autozone sells em.

H. radiator, get a universal from www.jegs.com or www.summitracing.com

for under 200 shipped, its not worth trying to get one from a bone yard.

you wouldn't want a tk5 behind any v8, so sell the tk5 to someone that can get better use out of it :icon_thumby:

I'd go with a chevy trans too, adapters get expensive, especially since there are plenty of options that bolt right on.

what are your plans for the truck? fun weekend, daily, both? standard or auto preference?

personally, i don't get the ford/chevy debate. I'm going to keep this quote of mine alive a little longer and post it again

i also don't get all the "wrong engine" comments. lets see, time to rebuild my ford motor. lets get a holley carb, edelbrock intake, keith black pistons, comp cam, trick flow heads, etc....

oh wait, i'm also rebuilding that chevy motor for my buddy. better get a holley carb, edelbrock intake, keith black pistons, comp cam, trick flow heads.............. see where i'm going with this?

thats about as ignorant as saying you wont run a dana solid axle since they came in jeeps.

personally, I want to shove a bad-ass big block ford into a 69 camaro convertible, or an old chevelle. roll into a car show, pop the hood, and smile :D

I've already read you're thread, great work BTW, same to you Doorgunner!
and I wonder if you can get that tranny to work
thanks for the info on the motor mounts and the radiator
and where did you get that cast iron brake fluid reservoir? my plastic one shakes and it scares me lol and thanks for the posts!

no prob, any help i can pass along is a good thing.

as for the reservoir, its original. so i guess get one for an 84 ranger??

Mine has an iron brake reservior and so does my dads. As a matter of fact his is new.
