Chevy 283 swap

I am currently considering picking up a '76 Scottsdale 2wd pickup from a buddy of mine. It's got a blown 350 that he killed when he ran it out of oil and an automatic tranny (TH350?? I don't know)

I have a lead on a really cheap 283 out of a '57 Chevy pickup and am wondering if it would bolt up to the tranny in the '76. I seriously know next to nothing about GM stuff other than the 283 and 350 are both small block motors.

It would be really cool if I knew this would work because I can probably pick up the truck and motor for like $150

if its a OEM 283 from 57 there are NO side motor mount holes in the block.and the 80s chevy pickups have those side mounts, so if you know how to use torch, drill and welder, you will need to make Front motor mounts. I have done this lots putting old SBC motors in NON Chevy chassis over the years,too bad your not closer, I can GIVE you a running 350 out of a 84 Suburban with 60,000 kms on it, cant give these away up here.with gas at $5.00 a gallon, Hot rod building is slowing down, I had it in my 47 Merc for few yrs, put a Flat head back in it, classier.

Wow I forgot all about that truck. It's still sitting up in the woods as far as I know, haven't cared enough to pull it out.
