here goes i am going to install 4.56 gears in my 8.8 and when i ordered the gears summit told me i needed the notched cross pin. i done have it but after some more research i found that i can just grind the ends of the ring gear a little and the factory cross pin will fit. my question is i done have the notched cross pin on hand and installing a lock-rite while i am at it should i use the notched cross pin since i am using a lock-rite.

no, the notched cross pins are a pain in the rear and look WEAK, just dremel the point of the ring gear tooth in the way. if you do want a notched cross pin, I have one slightly modified to work with an aussie locker I'll get rid of... I ordered it and made it work before I decided to put in a unmodified cross pin in.

thx for the info just looked at the notched cross pin and seems to be case hardened. and the package is opened and it says no return if opened so i guess i will just have it on hand

sounds like we did the same thing :)

use the stock cross pin, 4.56 shouldn't require much modification.

yes. just grind a tad off the corner of the ring gear. The part you grind off wont even come into contact with the pinion. I did with a 4" angle grinder, on numerous axles Ive setup.
