So my son's A/C's clutch when out on him and when we tried to replace the clutch, the 'stud' (where the spring clip rests) broke. So we replaced the compressor, accumulator, orifice tube, and the lines just to be sure. I flushed the dryer as well. No metal bits were seen on the orifice tube or the solvent washout.
Anyways, buying the components from RockAuto, I bought a suction and discharge line that connects to the compressor, but I didn't notice that it didn't have the pressure switch stud that was located near the condenser (like my OG line did). I thought the stud was located on the line where it actually connects to the compressor but I am not too sure of that right now.
So the questions are:
1. what does the pressure switch do?
2. Is it needed?
3. is there always a pressure switch on the high side?
4. what happens if I charge my AC up and use it without the switch?
5. should I eat the line and buy a line that has the stud on it? (I think I know this answer already).
TIA!
