Went and looked at new (to us) cars tonight with my girlfriend. she is replacing her Monte Carlo (Thank God!!!) I talked her out of a chevy malibu and got her into a 2010 Ford Fusion SE that is "Sport Blue" She fell in love with it. It has 36K on it. Anyone have any feedback on Fusions???
Thanks guys

Well, it uses a conventional oil filter. I hear the get decent mpg. Nothing really bad to say or bad things I heard.

My gf has a 2010 Fusion, I've driven it a few times. Rides ok, except on gravel roads, then it sounds like you're driving the Millennium Falcon through an asteroid field.

My biggest gripe of it is the dash lights are on when the key is switched to the on/run position, not when the headlights are turned on like most other vehicles of the past 70+ years. This seems counterintuitive to me and sometimes I forget to turn the headlights on because I think they're already on (using dash lights as a universal indicator).

Thanks guys, it will rarely see gravel roads, that is what my trucks are for. and the dash light thing is stupid?!?!? but i guess i didnt even notice. (she drove it, not me)

My friends dad has one, it went through 2 trannys within 50k. But that problem is fixed now apperently and it was to specific fusions. His was a I4 fusion so maybe it was specific to the 4 bangers? other than that i saw it as a pretty nice car, drove pretty nice

My gf's is a four cylinder, auto model. It has around 60k miles on it and it shifts just fine. But, that's not to say other people haven't had problems with theirs, this one just happens to be trouble free.

Excellent cars, great reviews. We were going to get one, but the wife drove the mini-van too long and didn't want to go back to a car yet, so we got an Explorer.

my gf has had hers since new its the 6 cylinder sport, blue in color and has like 123,000 on the clock, she loves it and hasnt had one problem

I drove one several times through work. No idea what year or engine it had in it so I can't comment (09 maybe?).

Honestly I liked it though. Even with the automatic trans (that normally doesn't happen). The dash light thing takes some getting used to, but even that wasn't that bad.

My parents just bought a 4 banger '10 fusion, it only has 1000 miles and trans shifts really weird when its cold. Maybe its got the problem you speak of? Other than that it seems to be a decent car.

As for the dash lights, my gfs 03 accord is the same way, i too forget to turn on the headlights, but then again my buicks headlights come on automatically when it gets dark so im just used to that.

I like the Fusion; I rented a loaded V6 SEL last Christmas and enjoyed the heck out of it. The Mercury Milan is kind of cool, too and kind of preferred its styling over the Ford. I might look for a used one.

There were a number of issues that were both indemic and specific to the new transmission used in the 4-cyl Escapes and Fusions starting in 2010. They have for the most part been hammered out.

Zman, check the fluid level, if OK but burnt, have your parents take it to the dealer and ask for the 10B18 (I think is't 18) load test to be done.

The car and the engine are both nice. Much better than the 2.3 in terms of power. Water pump isn't fun to change though.

Let's see..over 210-215 complaints have been filed just on the 2010 Fusion. Nice pos, Eh???

Here is one of the many links.........

http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2010/ford/fusion/

Did you read those, or just look at the numbers?

A lot of those were for the transmission issue that Ford had a recall for.

A lot of others were for other issues that are common in most modern cars with fly-by-wire systems. Namely failure of the throttle body unit.

I know you get to sit around and troll the web for complaints on cars all day, but I work on them day in and day out. There is nothing I've seen about ECTB setups that has me convinced the systems should be in common service yet, but everyone is using them. They fail on Fusions, Edges, Explorers, F-150s, Chevy and Dodge.

EDIT: Looking through more of these, one guy from Texas posted his issue multiple times under different categories. Many people seem to be complaining about their dealership more than their car, and by page 3 I count at least 2 times where people experienced a minor hickup or failure (from the information they gave) and then demanded large repair be performed or large assemblies be replaced without any sort of diagnostics performed and then were upset with the DEALER when they refused to do thousands of dollars of work that they wouldn't get reimbursed for from warranty.
