My credo
They say it can't be done, so I did it. Again
I am picking up a 2007 4.0 sohc Mazda B4000 engine tomorrow. This is what I am getting besides the "bent valve" hindered engine;
- throttle body
- coil pack
- exhaust manifolds
- all wiring for standard transmission
What else am I going to need to put this engine into my 89 2.9 Ranger (has A4LD, but I have a 5 speed trans from a 91 Explorer. Pedals and clutch assembly are waiting at the local Ford wrecker. I have the option of putting a ohv 4.0 into the Ranger instead, and using the sohc in my Pinto, as I remember reading the heater box will be in the way of the sohc head in the Ranger. I have narrowed a multitude of scenarios down to these two engine swaps.
BTW is the 5 speed in my 92 F-150 the same trans as the 91 Explorer trans?
And when did the F-150 start coming with an 8.8!?

If it has bent valves one has to wonder if one - or more - of the four different timing chains in the engine came out of phase (or whatever it's called). Since you'll have the engine out of the truck and already need to do serious work on it, probably worth checking out the timing chains tensioners and actual timing.
