I picked up a 2006 2 w/d 3.0l automatic standard, cab ranger Not sure what transmission it has and had the snap ring fail on the overdrive/reverse servo cap . I got another snap ring from the local ford dealer but I can not get the cap to go into the bore deep enoughf to alow access to the snap ring groove.
I had removed the cap and the servo puck from the bore and made sure the snap ring groove was free of any corrosion or debris . is there a need to back off the band adjuster to alow the cap to fit into the bore all the way?

Any help would be appriciated.

Yes you will need to back up the band adjuster to get the cover in far enough to install snap ring.

thanks for the help

Got the snap ring reinstalled after backing off the band adjuster bolt/lock nut assembly, returned adjuster bolt back to the original position.. no more trans leaks but now the water pump decided to fail before I could take it on a road test! Ugh.
guess I now know why the price was so cheap on this truck!
