2000 Ranger starting issues...

New fuel pump is supposed to be put in on Tuesday. Got things set up last night and picked up the pump. Just can't do that kind of work yet so I had to find someone open to wheeling and dealing because I don't really have any money right now and I don't know when I'll be able to return to work. Hope I don't have to throw any more money at this thing for awhile or I'm liable to be in trouble.

On the plus side, I'm now set up to be able to hook my laptop into the truck to run diagnostics and pull codes, so now I have more tools at my disposal for finding problems.

No fuel pump yet. Took my Ranger up to get it put in, the guy goes out to open his garage and found someone broke in and stole a bunch of tools, then fixed it so at first glance you didn't see anything wrong until you went to open the door. Had to wait for the police, then he had to go get some replacement tools and then ran into some issues with my truck. Should be done before long though, then it's on to other stuff

Well, Damn! Seems to be either Feast or Famine. To crippled up at the moment to even catch a break. Seems to be an awful long time trying to get mobile. Got faith that you'll get-er-done.

Yup, story of my life. Nothing is ever easy

New pump is in and working. Turns out you pretty much have to pull the bed to do it, lol. While they had the bed out of the way I hit a bunch of the frame with fluid film. Could use some new bed bolts and some rust repair on the bed when I can get to it this year. Seems to run a lot better now, lol

It's either pull the bed or drop the tank. If the tank is almost empty, that's the easy way. Glad to hear it's running better, it should be.

On mine, I found those bolts under the dash for the shifter. There are four of them on mine, two under and two atop. All four were loose. Three just a half turn or so, but one of the top ones took three turns to get tight. Shifts much better now, and the not starting in Park is done for. Didn't have to remove anything to do it, just laid on the floor on my back, shined a flashlight up there and tightened them with a screwdriver with a T30 bit in it.

Glad to hear it! Now, you can devote your full attention to your recovery. Back in the saddle in no time.

I did have the tank almost empty and they were trying to drop it, but discovered that with the 4x4 and it having the 19.5 gallon tank, there just wasn't really enough room to do it without having a real fight. So they yanked the bed, which turned out to be the easier way. Relatively speaking that is, they broke one T-55 bit and put a twist in another, lol.

Glad to hear you got the shifter fixed. I would have laid on my back on the floor to work on dad's like that, but I'm not sure how well that would have actually gone with still recovering from surgery so I didn't want to risk it.

Well, I still need spare keys and the one brake cable is sticking and some other odds and ends. But it's nice not having to hope it starts anymore and the other stuff is relatively minor so there's no big rush.

Yeah, wondering whether it's gonna start or not is a big problem. Ever since I started putting 1/2 gallon of E85 (2.5%) in my tank when I fill it, my starting issues have gone by the wayside. I'm not concerned about 2.5% ethanol being some kind of problem. My sister used 10% for four years without causing any issues.

So how about I decided to put a new air filter in since it didn't feel as peppy as it should and found that in the short time I've owned the truck, a mouse built a big nest in the air box...

Hahaha! We have a resident ermine that my Father-In-Law has been feeding. After completing a rear brake job on his dually we took it out for a test drive and upon returning home we see half a dozen wieners strewn all over the highway. Funny sight! Animals love trucks too!

AND.... yea.... more problems. Been running like a champ lately until I went to shoot a little pool tonight (more sit and BS with the guys since we haven't got together for months). Got almost there and it randomly started bogging so bad that it didn't want to go. Would sit and rev just fine in park or neutral, but in gear, any gear, it would chug and sputter and not do much. Finally kicked a CEL....

10 hard codes and 2 pending... I don't know where to start...

P1747 - manufacturer controlled transmission
P0743 - torque converter electrical failure
P0750 - shift solenoid A malfunction
P0755 - shift solenoid B malfunction
P0760 - shift solenoid C malfunction
P0765 - shift solenoid D malfunction
P1451 - manufacturer controlled auxiliary emission control
P0135 - o2 sensor heater malfunction: bank 1 sensor 1
P0141 - o2 sensor heater malfunction: bank 1 sensor 2
P0155 - o2 sensor heater malfunction: bank 2 sensor 1

Pending:
P1504 - manufacturer control vehicle speed idle speed control aux input
P1132 - manufacturer control fuel/air metering
