2000 Ranger Speed Sensor

I am having a hard time locating the speed sensor located on the transmission. I have a 2000 ranger 4x4. I have already changed the one in the differential. Any help locating it would be greatly appreciated.

if its 4wd, the speed sensor is in the transfer case. if its 2wd, its in the transmission tailhousing.

either way, its on the drivers side, towards the rear of the transmission/transfer case.

I have a 2000 ford ranger and im trying to replace my speed senser so my speedometer will work. It doesnt start working till i hit 60mph if its reading right. Is there a diagram i can go off of so i can tell where its at. any ideas

it's on top of the rear diff.

RABS equipped 2000's and 4WABS equipped 2000's BOTH use the rear axle mounted VSS for speedometer indication.

Note that the VSS signal also travels through the large connector under the driver seat. That connector is prone to water intrusion and corrosion, so if you can't find any other problem, look there. Clean it up and apply dielectric grease.

The VSS on top of the axle is a cheap part (~#20) and held in with a single 10mm bolt. If you find it hard to remove, know that it is just o-ring pressure and crud holding it in that bore after the bolt is removed.
