My ford ranger 4x4 2000 with 4.0 just died going down the road. Check engine light is on. Sprayed starting fluid into intake and it started for several seconds so I figured it was a fuel pump issue. Replaced fuel pump and still did not start. Checked relays to fuel pump and they are good. Jumpered across fuel pump relay and the fuel pump runs and there is fuel pressure at fuel rail but truck does not start. Replaced the ECM and truck still does not start and not sure what to do next

Inertia switch? Not sure where it is located on your model. Usually in the passenger side kick panel.
It could be a lot of different things but this one is easy to check.

Others will have more to offer.

EDIT: have you pulled any codes?

Welcome to TRS BTW.

Can't be inertia switch if I jumpered relay and pump starts that proves inertia switch is good. I have tried three computer code readers and cant get it to communicate

Mine did that once and it was the fuel pump fuse. its a mega fuse 30amp. Still blows once in awhile if I jar the truck off roading. keeping spares until I have time to figure it out.

So, no fuel. Are the plugs wet?
Odd that it just stopped with no prior symptoms.

Check the ground wire, clean battery terminals. Just an idea. The ground wire could be loose. If you can't communicate with the ecm. I am no mechanic though. Good luck.

when I had the schrader vale depressed I jumpered fuel pump relay and fuel shot out

that doesn't mean its to the correct spec though. fuel pumps can still put some fuel in the line but not be up to the pressure the system needs to spray into the chamber properly.

put a gage on that valve and see what it reads

Check the crank angle sensor. It is on the front end of the crankshaft, pretty easy to replace.
