Well, either one is going to be a crapshoot.....which ever one runs better should be the one you buy.

Yea, but my co-worker is a ford WIZ. Knows everything there is to know and said he'd help me. He says the 78 is better. I just want to get a few more referances about them. The last truck I owned was a big bown 81 f150 PILE so I'm a leary of that 86...

the 78 will be simpler all around, and the body looks to be in decent shape, just needs some paint (pictures can lie though, they only show you what the person behind the camera wants you to see). i had an 86 bronco and i feel ya there, it was a pile of crap. sometimes it would start and get me where i was going, then leave me stranded when it was time to go home. i scraped it and bought a parts truck with the $. have you looked into used gen 2 and 3 rangers? i see them all the time around here, but theyre usually on the side of someones garage with grass up to the mirrors (usually need a water pump or something minor) or they are on their last leg already and the owners want too much.

Id take the f250 hands down. Beefier framework. As old as they are both have a chance of problems no matter which is better right now, But the tougher truck would def be the 86 and handle a much better beatin. For the price of the next truck you can always put a new motor in it. And it can tow.

See, that's why i'm not looking at a smaller truck. I need the towing power. I have a horse, and my BF's mom has a 2 horse BP trailer I can use. But I have nothing to pull it with and a little yoter or ranger just isn't going to cut it for me...

seems to me the 78 might be a little easier and maybe cheaper to work on....

I have had five 80-86 gen trucks and they have all been great except for one. Two of them, my '80 stepside and the one in my sig, were purchased new. My dad had a '75 F250 that was also great.

Either is easy to work on and anything that old will have its share of issues. Just pick the one that runs better.

id buy the 78, just cause i think they are Awesome. The tranny would concern me about the 86 tho, those type of things only get worse.

That's what I was worried about... The guy says he's not sure where it's leaking at so if I can get ahold of him, i'll go look at it and see if I can figure it out.... So far he hasn't called me back yet....

I say go for the 250, my buddy has one an it has gone to hell and back. He hates it but it takes whatever he throws at in stride.

I'd hold out on both.......

vehicles are out there.
you can do better.
any particular reason your hell bent on those two?

Frank

I've always liked the 78 F-150's. The only thing about this one is its a long bed. :( I'm assisting a friend rebuild a 78 F-150 LWB 2WD now. They're a good truck. And this one looks like its in pretty good condition. I'm thinking the 78 would be a good truck.
