2.9l bubbling in the reservior/recovery tank

Just the opposite. The computer doesn't know the valve isn't opening wide enough or long enough and pushes the original amount of fuel toward that cylinder anyway. Making the mixture slightly richer than normal rather than leaner.
Big Jim
False. If it's really that bad (and the oil pressure has to be absurdly low) then the computer knows (because the O2 sensor tells it) that there was less air in the mix than it expected, and it immediately reduces the fuel trim to bring it back into balance.

The computer will maintain the correct fuel/air mix, regardless of what the lifters are doing. It won't run rich or lean, and it won't run hot.

The heat is coming from some other cause. I still suspect some kind of blockage in the coolant system.

Thank for the info on this guy's

The old Ranger passed CA smog Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeew I was worried. The extra quart of Lucas and STP oil treatment helped the lifter ticking. It still get bubbling in the recovery tank after 12 seconds after shutting it off. The temp is good never overheated or get hot. The guy that did the smog test has a Ranger like mine he herd the lifter ticking and said I could adjust the rocker arms to help it. He said it needs to be running to this to find the one or one's making the noise? Love to adjust them but I think its over my head in doing this right

Start by adjusting them according to the factory instructions, and getting an oil pressure test.

Once you've done that to establish a baseline, then you can determine what ought to be done, and whether adjustments will help.

I got to get a reading on oil pressure that is next the lifter ticking at times there is no ticking sounds and runs great. Its at start up and after shutting it off if I start it again right after its starts ticking. When cold it ticks on start up but once on the highway going up a steep grade the ticking goes away until I turn it off and re-start it few minuts later than back to ticking
