what kind of paint are you guys using? i saw there is special spray pain for plastic but wonder what i should do to prep the plastic trim before painting? i dont think that soap and water willl remove armor all etc that could make the paint bubble

I used denatured alcohol and scuffed the panels and used regular paint

On the surrounds for the door handles I cleaned them with dish washing liquid, lightly sanded them, 4 coats of primer, 3 coats of paint & 4 coats of clear. This works great on the hard plastic but on the soft be sure to use vinyl paint with adhesion promoter first. Regular spray paint will chip real fast if used on anything that's soft and flexible!

the vinyl paint adhesion stuff works well u can use spray vaersion of base coat clear coat paint and just dont put the clear on the base coast paint matches up with a very good finish similar to the factory and then u can have any color u want made into a spray can though but the spray cans this way can be costly .

bulldog adhesion promoter and primer and ur golden. simple as that

paint

I used Dupli-Color High Performance Vinyl & Fabric paint after a bath in denatured alcohol and a scotchbright pad and a layer of primer

your choice of vinyl and plastic paint

Do not use normal spray paint, it will turn to gel in the heat of a car. Use something designed for automotive interiors.

Primer is not neccesary, unless you have small imperfections smaller than a 180 grit scratch that you would like to fill and sand, which is not likely to turn out well on a textured surface.

The bulldog adhesion promoter is also a sealer, which means you can topcoat right over it with good results.

Wonder if I can get some more details on "vinyl paint with adhesion promoter first". What's adhesion promoter and who makes it. Also, looking to paint all the trim in my extended cab. Some is metal and some is vinyl. (don't want to do the dash). And looking for a neon type color to brighten up my life.

Orielly and probably any other parts stores sell adhesion promoter. Give a good cleaning, like others have mentioned. A light coat of adhesion promoter and then interior paint designed for plastic and vinyl. SEM is a well known interior paint seller.
LMR, Late Model Mustang website sells the color of Mustangs but Ford used the same color in all their year trucks and cars. At their website you can get it year specific to your truck. Interior paint works great and makes a big difference.

Is there a manufacturer or WEB site for this paint. I tell you I'm off the charts with colors. I don't want OEM colors. I want Neon brights.

Thread ressurection! I want to paint my interior door panels. I've just read a bunch of threads on it but they all just die off with no real information I'm looking for. I have a 2007 and I want to paint the lower, textured, area of the interior panels. I think the two-tone would look nice. I've wiped the panel down with Windex, alchohol, washed it with hot water and Dawn but I just can't get the tape to stick! I've tried Frog painters tape, the blue painters tape, regular masking tape and nothing sticks to the plastic! I have not tried Gorilla tape yet as I know it would be hard to trim. Any sugesstions on how I can get the tape to stick to the plastic so I can tape off the section I want to paint? Thanks!

I think it was on the can of spray paint for vinyl that I bought at the auto parts store. It said to wash the vinyl with TSP. I found a phosphate free version for sale. Seemed to work OK for the spray paint; not sure if it will work for tape. I took my panels off and sprayed them outside the vehicle. Came out good, but the better upgrade was the header. Bought some nice material on-line and re-did that.

TSP is usually recommended to degrease something before painting.

Is that a screw hole at the end? You might be able to remove it, paint it, and reinstall it.

Your local part store should have basic colors of vinyl paint (dye), but if you want a better color selection, go to https://summitracing.com
