I was reading the tech library and i kno i need the wiring harness and computer but what else do i need?

What yr 4.0 and what yr truck is it going into? Auto into auto ,manual into manual, auto into manual or manual into auto I just did this swap "Well worth it" Ill help you as much as I can.

I believe its a 94 explore 4.0 motor and it would go into a 89 ford ranger ext cab 4x4 2.9 auto. I just got the tranny rebuilt 500 miles ago and want to keep it. I just wanna kno everything i need to do it. What parts can i still use from the 2.9? I appreciate the help. Thanks

K you'll need the under hood wiring harness & ecu from the xplorr use the whole motor flywheel air cleaner set up "starter is a must 2.9 is to big " from donor if u have air and want to keep it u will need the ac lines from xplorr also You will need to modify your fuel lines the fuel line quik connect couplers are diff between motors I used the lines of 4.0 back to fuel filter speaking off that use the 2.9 fuel filter mounting bracket mounting holes were diff on mine y I don't know. There's a thread at the the top of 4.0 conv showing the fuel line mod its easy to do 4.0 is metal & male, 2.9 is is female and plastic. B4 I 4get the ox sensor's were diff too 2.9 was 3 pin 4.0 had 4 ,i just used 4.0 y pipe ox sensor's were rusted up pretty good if u think of anything else just ask had some very good people help & advise me.Also tape and mark all connections so u know were they go when 4.0 is in the 89 use the 4.0 rad also.I had to repin my cannon plugs for my rear lights and fuel gauge to work but that's easy to do also, the wires are the same color but diff location's.When its done you will b very happy! :)

Haha im sure i will. But what about the dash? They say ill need the dash out of the explore. Is that true? What about headers, use the 4.0 im sure right? What about fuel pump? Just put a brand new one in. Will it work with the 4.0?

Fuel pump is fine. You can use either exhaust as they are both the same block. Just check for egr hook up if applicable. You will only need the dash if its an 83-88 it being swapped into.

Awsome! So itll just plug into the back of my dash? Also the motor is already out and its at a salvage yard near me so im not exactly sure what to look for when i go to another explore. I can get the wiring harness seprate but dont kno where the computer is located. Whats a rough estamit on how much money this swap will take? The motor is 400 with 104xxx.

There will be some splicing under the hood. See my how to in the link I posted. There is also some helpful links at the bottom of the page that helped me.

Here is a rough break down of what I spent.
Donor -$800
New parts for motor -$600
Sold 2.9 +$200
Sold Ex transmission +$250
Sold Ex as scrap +$200

So all together for just the motor and harness, it cost about $150.

Ok awsome. Haha not a very expensive swap.lol. So how would i kno which wires to splice?

Alright cool! Sorry im new to this site and dont kno everything on this site. O can i use pacesetter headers from the 2.9 for the 4.0?

You can, but I would steer clear of anything Pacesetter. They are junk.
