Looking for some info. I need to build a 2.9 litre for my next project car.Does any one have any specs on how much horsepower you can get out of a 2.9 fairly reliably. I need to come as close as I can to a 72 Group 2 Capri. They were running 320 horse out of a bored out 2.6 which was about 2990 ccs by the time they were done.8500 RPM. I realize this is asking alot from this motor, but I had hoped for about 260-270. Will be running 11.5-1 Compression. Will be manufacturing my own 3 weber dual throat carb setup.Any known speed parts that could help would be great. Crank, rods etc. Thanks all for your input.

I have no experience with these folks, but they list some good looking stuff for 2.9's, 4.0's and others. They have a stroker kit for it.
That "BOSS 2.9" upper intake would look real good on mine but I'm not gonna put that kind of money in a trail rider.
Good luck.

Thanks Boomer. I have checked out his web site. He would be a good one to call. Thanks again

If you want to run 11.5:1 compression in a 2.9, make durn sure you get the New Process heads.

Factory 2.9 heads like to crack if put under too much stress.

Thanks 08. Planned on using world products heads.Would these be the same as the new process heads you mentioned? Thanks

why in the HELL are you putting carburators on that engine?

use fuel injection like it was intended for, and you'll get better performance.

never heard of new process heads... as far as i know the only after market 2.9 heads are world product's.

In order for it to compete it needs mechanical injection, which are rarer then Hens teeth or three dual throat carbs.

in that case you're going to need to invent a new intake manifold, there was never a carbed manifold for the 2.9

Not with a factory EFI system, at least not with the mods he is suggesting. Aftermarket fuel injection, sure, but sounds like he can't use it.

Edit:
Also thought there was a better 2.9L German head that was supposively stronger, name started with an "M", but I can't remember what it was. Had aftermarket heads on mine with no indicators as to what they were, but sure weren't Ford heads.

Edit:
I'd be most concerned about distributor, intake should be a non-issue..

I had a 72 Capri once...it was a great little car...but I think it had a 4 banger in it...can't really remember because I was mechanically declined back then...but I got my first ticket for squawking the tires...coming off gravel onto the pavement at full throttle was needed to do it though...

I hope you can post a build thread for it...

Close enough.

My boss just built a 2.9 and said he used New Process. He doesn't always say what he means though. He may have meant World Product.

with three deuces that would be incredibly easy to do....it would just need an adapter plate to sit between the stock lower and the carbs.....unless someone wanted to get fancy.

intakes are not too hard to make.

you sure it was NP?

i don't understand why the dodge/GM bastard child would make ford parts.
