2.9 cold air intake

^^^x2:icon_confused:

Please do explain on this warm air theory.

The only way to get more air/fuel in the compbustion chamber is going to forced induction.
you nailed it there, an engine is only going to flow as much air as it needs to run correctly, the stock setup was designed to flow much more air than the engine uses. I am helping a buddy supercharge a 4 liter right now and we are planning on running *GASP* the factory airbox and some of the tubing, I doubt we will see any noticeable difference if we change it either. the 2.9 pulls less than 250CFM pinging off rev limiter. putting a more free flowing intake isn't going to make a noticeable difference. I'm running an intake setup that is MORE restrictive than a factory setup, it draws hot underhood air, I noticed absolutely no difference in performance at all. I've seen these pissing matches go on and on for way too many pages, and absolutely nothing gets accomplished.

I found it out in 4 Wheeler magazine years ago when they did a test on a Dodge. They got more horsepower using cold air on the dyno but got more torque by feeding it warm underhood air. I was surprised when I read it but the dyno dont lie. I have got better gas milage on several different vehicles this way.

does anyone know if theres a cold air intake out there for a 93 ranger 3.0???
i cannot find anything besides these universal ones at advance auto etc which meansa imo they universaly fit nothing lol

Yes, in fact, there is one on your truck already. Ford put it there in 1993. :icon_thumby:

i thought of fabing me one up using using PVC and the facrory hose but thought sinse my stock bat box is shot put the filter there and the bat where the factory air box is . what you guys think

Sounds like a good setup for a hot air intake. :icon_thumby:

i used the factory box and (ram air induction) if you will. i just sealed any leaks from the grill to th box and removed yhe hose to the manifold sealed the box up good and sealed the vac line to the heat flapper. behind the grill i removed the plastic guard that keeps out bugs and birds and shit and covered that hole with window screen. now do i have a working forced air intake?

not really, IIRC you need to be going to be going over 100mph to notice any appreciable difference in manifold pressure in a "forced air" setup

yea i used my stock hose and put a 5 inch filter on it and set it right in the top of the box and if u think abot it this way its in a way getting both cool air and warm mostly warm but u have that sitting in the airbox where cool air comes in so itsreally a mix of hot and cool

the factory designs the engine for the best balance of power, economy, and emissions that will make the truck the most marketable. think of it as a triangle with the 3; you make more power and the economy and emissions suffer. move in another direction and the other two suffer. so there is in fact some power, economy, and emissions left on the table BUT you sacrifice something in return

unless you setup like a cool hood scoop with a filter directly on the intake, and the scoop pulling air right onto the filter...
(equals no drivey in rain)
