2.9 and 4.0 bellhousing bolt pattern

One bolt at the 1 o'clock position is different - not a big issue.

when i bolted the 4.0 SOHC M50D-R1HD to my 4.0 OHV i was told the same thing....however, all the bolt holes lined up.....

even if 1 hole doesn't line up, the other 10 or so will hold the transmission....

Try bolting up a OHV tranny to a SOHC - you'll see what I mean. If you didn't have a mismatch - then the tranny you have didn't 'originally' come from a SOHC.

You're right about the other bolts being enough though.......

There are a total of eight bellhousing bolts on either version of a 4.0
and generally speaking seven is sufficient.

Hell, you do not want to know how many trannies I've pulled where I found four (or less) bolts holding the trans to the engine...

the M50D-R1HD I put in my '97 Ranger was from an '03 FX4 Level II....
