the 2.9 in my bronco II is trashed and i'm very interested in doing the 4.0 swap. i found a parts car that has around 120,00 miles on the engine. Is that too many miles?
thanks for the help

yeah ....... they don't typically start having problems till over 200K, is it in the car? do a compression check. if its out of the car atleast change the head gaskets and get the heads fluxed.

the engine is still in the explorer, after i pull it out should i still change the head gaskets and get the heads fluxed?

I'd leave the heads be. I'd put on new valve cover and intake gaskets and new plugs while it is out. way easier with the engine out.

atleast check the compression before you pull it

at the minimum, id change rod bearings and the front and rear main seal. my 140+k engine shows nominal wear on the mains, and just starting to show copper on the rods. cheap insurance, rods are $20 for a set, oil pan gasket is $20, rear main is $14, front main is $8.
