If all it is doing is smoking just change the valve seals you can do that without pulling the heads. Use air pressure to hold the valves in put each piston on TDC on the compression stroke and put around 20lbs pressure so it dont push the piston down. I bought a palm spring compressor on it done in about 2 hours. Adjust the valve lash and dont tighten the valve covers all the way down just snug them then do a complete warm up cycle and after the engine cools all the way down you can final the valve lash and button it up. If there is no reason to rebuild the engine poor compression or low oil pressure just pull the intake manifold and reseal the upper end where it always leaks oil between the heads and block in the valleys the oring on the dizzy and valve guide seals. Put new valve cover gaskets and that engine should have 200,000 left on it. You can do a complete rebuild but if the emissions are messed up it would be all for not.
