Removed the smog pump from my 1985 Ranger 2.8L. Here's the vacuum line diagram, modified to reflect the deleted components. The work was fairly straightforward since there were no sensors to deal with.

How is it running? I would say you can get rid of all that computer stuff and clean up the engine bay, but the distributor supply has dried up. So you had better keep what you have if it's running good.

I'm still running the factory feedback carburetor, TFI ignition, and A4LD automatic, so at this time completely removing the computer is not practical. However, ultimately, doing away with the "computer stuff" is desirable for the sake of simplicity. I may tackle that on the next overhaul.
The advantage of removing the smog pump (and its appurtenant hoses) is increased accessibility to the passenger side of the engine compartment. That was my goal anyway.
