2.8 liter TBI swap

They need a big engine to put out a lot of TORQUE to turn the huge mud tires.

Status report for my truck.......

The power draw is worse then ever, cold weather isnt helping me. Went and took it out for a 3 minute drive and it looks like diesel going down the road, burning rich so I need to get a fuel regulator, if continued to run this way I will be looking at a new o2 sensor and CAT. Its giving the amount of fuel a 3.8 needs, not a 2.8. Has excellent throttle responce. Need to figure out what the clunck sound is when shifting into 2nd gear. And of course the hanging idle.

What your truck does have that mine doesnt and will never have is an extended cab. I could put an extende cab on mine but then I would have to put a short bed on mine which I dont want so I'll live with what I've got.

i forgot what i said haha. but anyhow. i think it involved something about my ex cab only being good for holdin my guns cause of the subs, which are comin out soon once shes running good again.

WHOA HAHA when i posted this it showed up... wierd

u just wait til i got my crew cab 4x4 and then we'll see whos laughing

Then its not going to be a far, full size vs. compact. You can have your full size truck, comes with full size gas tank and the small milage. You up size the truck, you upsize the cost.

Alright, now for some building news......

The bracket I made I'm not going to use, my brother in law decided he wanted to do the welding so I said he could but I'm going to be re-designing them completely so when I can get accurate measurements of where the links will be I will be starting the design process.

good to hear stuff gettin done. but i dunno about this upsize cost stuff. its around the same money to buy a used ranger and they get what, 20 mpgs?
durms get around that with way more power and resale is better too. lets not start with towing capacity and the only time havin a small truck is good in my opinion is offroad cause nothin beats a short wheelbase. thats for sure

Why worry about resale??? If you buy a truck keep it, why resale it?? Thats just my opinion.

Try not buying as many then. Get a vehicle that does all or at least most stuff, like a 4wd.

Not to hijack the thread or offend anybody, but anyone who thinks that the cost of driving a crewcab 4x4 duramax will be even remotely close to the cost of driving any iteration of Ranger or derivation thereof is smoking some pretty wild stuff. I know a kid who's got a a duramax of which you speak and his truck payment is more than my mortgage payment (and it's not a cheap house!!!) Add on the astronomical insurance costs and then you get the itch to mod it and the truck will bring to your knees financially, even if you have a good paying job.

Duramax's or any other large diesel truck are designed for very special purposes of which 80% of the buyers these days of said trucks have no use.

Thats exactly why I would rather drive what I have and not buy something over kill and to much of something. I have no use for a full size truck, my brother in law has a full size truck and my bed is bigger on mine and his only gets 12 mpg, no matter what. My truck has cleanly carried the same amount of weight in the bed as his. The only real difference is his has an 8.8 and mine has a 7.5 but our axles are rated to carry the same load. His my get off the line faster and go faster due to having a 4.6 and being an f-150 but they will get to the same place sooner or later. He was wanting to sell it seeing that he didnt need a full size truck and he already owned a ranger, but wasnt going to be able to get what he needs out of it to pay it off, he has really no choice but to keep it.

My 2.8 TBI swap was a want, not a need. My SAS was a want but is now a need being it will cost me more to fix my TTB then do a SAS.

Point is theres a difference between wants and needs.

ur talkin new, im talkin used. 06 durm at gm dealership, 16998
o6 ranger, anywhere from 16000 to 21000 here.
cost of ownership?
like what? ranger gets what, low 20's highway, 18-19 city with a 4.0 auto 4x4.
insurance? differences are minimul.
especially on used stuff.
now on to the "itch to mod it"
first off, modding diesels is up to people with lots of money. people like me live with what we can get. the only mod i would do is throw a 350 dollar chip on it and enjoy the extra 100 horsepower and 5mpg.
towing is not huge for me but in the future i'd like to think im gonna need it. also, diesels are a lot tougher just in design, what being very high compression and the duramax is a very tough engine. trust me i dont throw words like that around, especially on a ford site. im a ford guy but theres no comparing. plus, if i wanna blow my money on a truck that way out does what i need, whos to stop me?
i see your view and peacefully agree to disagree.
now back to dr83S BUILD. hows that goin?

Being told what up grades my D30 can get. You can read it in the non-ranger axle section under d30 steering linkage. Shows what my D30 has and my pinion bearing problem, happened when it was shipped to me, thats the one thing keeping me from throwing it back together.

The guy I got it from wasnt a dumbass for off-road driving, he knew what was good and what wasnt and its starting to show.

BTW we finally got some snow it is currently 17 degrees outside right now, but nothing I can have fun with due to my truck isnt street legal and needs alot of work still. I have to put a todo list up still, do that tomorrow I hope. This list might atke up some space and bring up more questions.

well tis mornin it was only minus 15! :yahoo:
so that would be..5 farenhiet!
I finally some sweater weather!

Right now it's 32 farenhiet outside, I cant convert to celciuos I'm to dumb to do that, but I need to tighten up my alternator belt, it was flopping everywhere last time it was started and yank the battery out of the truck and put it on the tender and make a todo list, update the 2.3 part out thread.

I was told that I can CAREFULLY cut my bad pinion bearing off with a dremal tool, which two years agofor x-mas I got the best of the best that was on the market, so after I do all this might go for it after I get all that stuff done. At least the sun is shining makes it feel warm out.

Went and order a new inner pinion bearing, much cheaper to buy off line then drive to a store and get it plus I got free shipping a a discount. The part store would have still had to have it shipped to them. I'll cut the bearing offf tomorrow.

EDIT: Plans changed, brother in law said bad idea bring it to him and he will take it to his work and take off the old and press on the new one, cant beat that.
