is there any way to do this? i mean properly..... kinda like a 2.8 with a 2.9 crank. anyadvantage in doing this?

It has reportedly been done, it comes out to something like a 4.3 if I remember right. I know some custom machining had to be done on the crank to get a timing setup to work.

You might try looking for any mention of it on the 2.8 forum as well, that is where I saw it but it may have been before the changeover a year and half ago. I know there was a big deal about it once, but it was awhile ago.

It is a lot of work for an experimental engine that could fly apart for not other reason that it just wanting to. A 4.0 swap is much easier/cheaper, and if you want to get wild they have a stroker kit available as well.

ha ha i kinda figured that it would turn out to be a big POS it was just a thought

ALL changes in displacement in the Cologne engine family have been the result of an increase of BOTH bore and stroke.

So mixing parts would accomplish little.

And piss away the 2.9's advantages.

Frankly the 2.8 was as much of a "pig" for cracking heads as the 2.9
is reputed to be.

Everyone knows that the early 4.0 was a big improvement over the 2.9
what gets forgotten is that the 2.9 was as much an improvement
over the 2.8.

I have had mine hot a couple times, hot enough that it started loosing power. Maybe out of nothing but shear defiance it is still keeping its fluids seperate. Otherwise it has been a poster child of the other 2.8 problems with the feedback system and valve seals.

It is a later one though and only has the single thermostat on top, maybe they changed something else too.

I kinda like the little bugger, it just won't quit. :icon_thumby:
