I got a 1986 ford ranger 2.3l manuel. My problem is it will not run it sill crank but not run or even try to run.It has a yellow/reddish spark at all 4 plugs and has 40psi of gas pressure. So far i have replace the coil, dizzy cap spark plug spark plug wires, new dizzy, new rotor button, and its in time and on the compression stroke with the rotor button pointing to number one on the cap. What should i check next?

Module

Have you checked the module ? Im thinking spark should be more blue than anything.

ether

I'd try starting fluid next make sure plugs are dry, squirt some into throttle body open blade all the way then close let it vaporize for a couple seconds if it tries to fire with the fumes id think the spark is not strong enough to fire in the gas in Id start checking voltage of the ignition system.Just a thought check the inertia switch make sure button is down.

OK i did what you said and nothing happened.I have a blue spark at the coil and if you put a spark plug in the other end of the coul wire its red then at the plugs its red.The wires are brand new 40 dollar wires and are low resistence

At the coil

Its a strong blue spark that is good is that right at the coil tower or at the end of the coil wire where it goes on the dist? Try 1 of your old plug wires plugged into the coil and see if that makes a diff in the color of the spark this sounds kinna stupid but those wires don't have a metal core do they? Had to ask sorry you are losing spark strength between the coil and dist if what you said is correct, does your truck have the stock cat conv wonder if it could be plugged have you run a compression check? If all else fails pull the valve cover and c if valves are opening and closing. If you have a strong blue spark coming from the coil and good fuel and air your truck should run.

yes thats right and i tryed the old plug wires still same problem and i think they have a metal core not sure what you mean by that and yes it still has the stock cat.and no i havent ran a compression check.

Iv read and been told electronic ignition systems wont run with the metal cored wires y I dont know I was always informed not to use them.My 79 f-250,my Branger "pictured",my sons 89 lo rider 4.0 and the 2.9 dist I used for reference heck even my 82 shovelhead Harley have wires with a fiberglass core and they all have electronic ignition systems on them.Have you made sure the rotor is turning while using the starter to turn the motor over? Sorry had to ask

yes i have noone around here to help me and am not a mechanic i want to be one one day when i get more knowledge tho i like working on cars though just need someone to show and help me out a little

wires

make sure they dont have metal cores and do compression check

Could it be the Timing Belt. What does the Dizzy run off?

if it wont firer with starting ful and every thing is good. your timing is prob a tooth off on the dis . the roter shouldn't line up prefect on one.even if u have very little compression it will still run just not very well .
