I am sure this has been answered before but I can't find it....
Does that 2.3 turbo diesel share parts with any other small diesel made in that era? Thanks for the info, I am very much intrigued by the diesel ranger. Selling my swedish car to get another ranger, worst decision I made was keeping a saab and selling a ranger.:bawling:

i think they used the same diesel in the small dodge and mitsu trucks.

what parts are you looking for?

just feeling it out in general. I don't wanna be in the situation where something on the engine fails and I can never find a part for it at a reasonable price. basically where i am at now with the saab is one stupid part fails after another and none of these are ford ranger part price territory. (i.e. parts are ridiculously expensive) And the whole gm parts mix match on the car is really starting to show. Drive train is in excellent shape but the rest of the car...the only fit my ranger ever gave was a rough idle for 4 months that i finally massaged out with more parts and less money than one window regulator in the friggin saab

Thanks for the info on interchanges. Anyone know tow capacity with this motor? I know the 2.5 Lima could pull around a lawn tractor and other mowing stuff reasonably and not get stuck on a hill.

the dodge that shares some parts is the d50. the code for the Mitsubishi motor is 4d55t. most basic parts are available from parts stores. i dont know the exact capacities but ive moved my welder around in the bed of my diesel ranger just ok. But the welder is 570lbs plus all leads and whatever else was in the bed. have to remember its only like 80hp or somewhere around there...

Yes but the real beauty of an oil burner is the torque.

Has anybod heard of some backyard thinker doing a biodiesel conversion on a Ranger?

yes ibought a old d50 last week that has a relly good 2.3 diesel with turbo i am thinking it woule be better to find a 2 wd ranger to put it in than deal with the rust on the d50 but thing runs great

Nice info. A welder right in the bed or do you have that thing outboard on a trailer? (what kind of welder, just curious, I am a welding engineer)

I found the torque specs on here at only 100 lb-ft? A turbodiesel with torque and hp numbers so close together? In my mind of the numbers i get from vw tdi owners that can't be right. Of course engines have come a long way since 1986....

I checked rockauto for parts, they seem to have a wealth of common parts (injectors, belts, filters, canisters, etc) for fairly cheap, in the dollars neighborhood of where i like parts to be.

Thanks for the info, TRS community is still the source.

the welder was in the bed and its a miller trailblazer 302. im looking at making a trailer for it so i can move around all my bottles and wire feeder. rockauto is a great source for these. ive gotten numerous parts from there, the best thing about them is they have pictures so you can make sure if its really the same part.

good info. anybody do a conversion to timing chain? Diesel and belts? Timing is everything

Will a 2.0 diesel motor from a 1984 Mercury Topaz car fit in a Ranger?

The guy who is selling the car for $400 said it gets over 35 miles per gallon and said it's a Mazda diesel motor?

I thought these small diesel motors for vehicles were either made by Perkins or Mitsubishi?

sure is thats a Mazda RF series and has proven to get into the mid 30's. Where on earth did you find that, those things are more rare than the Ford Tempo AWD. 52 HP though. I think its a close relative of the perkins 2.2

ive been looking for either one of these motors or a whole truck for a while...pretty hard to find

I seen it advertised.

The guy claims it gets 35 plus miles per gallon.

The 84 Mercury Topaz this 2.0 Mazda diesel engine is in, is kind of rusty though.

Do you think it would still be worth buying though, as he's asking only $400 for it.

He said the engine runs really well but leaks some oil.

It's probably just a bad seal, somewhere.

Maybe, it's only the valve cover gasket leaking?

Are these engines and cars really as rare, as you mentioned?
