2.3L Thermostat Location

Hey guys,

I'm looking to replace my radiator, apparently it leaks coolant out the bottom of the driver's side when it's revved up a little (I'm guessing it has to do with increased pressure or something.) Anyway, my coworker that helps me with a lot of the mechanical fixes said we should be able to replace the radiator no problem, but that he'd like to know where the thermostat was so we can make sure the system doesn't have any air bubbles in it, etc.

Also, we've been looking at radiators for sale online, and are just wondering whether there's a major difference between radiators in automatic and manual transmission trucks. I don't have the towing package and I have a manual.

Any help/advice would be appreciated!

Thermostat is at the end of the upper radiator hose on the block. 2 bolts and the housing come off. I think auto radiators have transmission fluid going through it. Not 100% sure though.

The transmission lines attach to the rad and the fluid runs into the side of the rad and back out...so, yes, the fluid does run through the rad...but you can also buy an external one that can be fitted if desired...

BTW, this is probably the new 2.3 since they stopped making them in 97 or so...replaced by the 2.5...not sure where the new 2.3 t-stat is but could be similar location...

There is a forum for the newer 2.3 under the Engine section below...maybe someone has already posted something of this nature...
