2.3 sohc to a dohc

my uncle has a mig and tig welder. i wasnt going to just throw the head on first i want to do all of it at once for the soul purpose of why take the motor apart 2 times instead of once ya know. kill 2 birds wit one stone

Just FYI, I hope he has a hefty tig welder. One of the gas cooled 175 amp units isnt going to work for you, you have to have some decent penetration when welding the block onto the back of the head, and adding aluminum to the head takes a shitload of amps.

You also have to machine some parts out, like the pulley spacers and whatnot, and build things like an intake and exhaust manifold(turbo), what you planning for engine management?

IMO, the volvo head swap isnt worth it if your just going to keep it N/A.

I agree, I don't know anything about the mods you have to do to the head, but if you planning on staying N/A the head swap isn't worth it... For the price of all the work you'll do to it you can buy an entire junk turbocoupe and swap in that motor...

does anyone know if the XR4Ti and transmission will directly fit into a ranger engine bay? how much custom work to fit one in?

the xr4ti you mean the 2.3 turbo that they came with? yes they will fit. but if its a standard do not use the merkers tranny use your ranger one providing you have the M5OD. the t-9 that came in the merkurs is very weak.

but yes they do fit. and the wiring harness is almost exactly the same. plug & play for the most part. extra few hundred hp's in a day if you are swapping a built one in.
