2.3 rwd to 4.0 swap trans help

I have a 2.3 1990 ranger rwd that I’m swapping a 4.0 Explorer motor into. I have a manual in the 2.3 and an auto in the donor. Also the donor is 4 wheel drive. What transmission and computer will be the easiest. Building a prerunner. Thanks for any help.

For manual trans an M5OD-R1(M5R1) from a 2WD 4.0l Ranger, 1990-1997 will have speedometer cable hook up for your 1990 dash, 1998 and up will not.

Mazda B4000(has 4.0l) 2WD used the same transmission in those same years

1988 to 1992 Rangers 2WD with 2.9l engines also used the M5R1 and 2.9l and 4.0l used same transmission bolt pattern

1990-1994 4.0l computer from manual trans vehicle will be the easiest to use, 2WD or 4x4 doesn't matter for the computer, only manual or automatic and engine size, with or without EGR also matters, Calif only in those years
Ranger or Mazda B4000 used same computers

Hi Demmons, I am doing the same swap, did you just connect the 42 pin connector from the engine to the original in the Ranger or had to do some modifications?
