2.3 performance

Yep - '95+ heater core is a major job. Totally different dash design.

did the heater core on my '97, did not have to take the steering wheel off. Did have to take the dash panels, radio, around the steering column off. If i remember, it is bolted in place from the engine side of the firewall. Essentially had to disconnect the dash from the body and pull it back from the firewall to get to the heater core. It took my Dad and I a few hours to figure it out. No special parts as I can recall.

I just upgraded my coil pack and spark plugs. I bought a Accel Coil Pack from Summit Racing and I bought some Taylor Wires (not installed but they are on their way) and I got my Spark plugs from Nology (Silver Spark Plugs). I could feel a difference with just the coil pack and the plugs, but my truck needed a tune up too. Plus the Accel Coil Pack is cheaper than the stock one ($61.95) and the 4 Silver Spark Plugs from Nology were $44.33 with shipping (part number G4YS). You might have the Dual Spark Plug setup like me, so that means two coil packs and 8 spark plugs and 8 spark plug wires. Summit Racing's selection on spark plug wires for the dual plug engines in very slim (all Taylor). I only did the the 4 (main) spark plugs and coil pack for now, but I am going to do the rest when I get my wires and the other 4 spark plugs. Here are some links for you, if you are interested.

Did anything ever come of this? Did you end up putting an escort flywheel in it? im looking to do the same thing to mine! let me know please, thanks!

This is a pretty old thread but just to let you know,we still are running the escort setup in the 22 truck and is still working fine.If you go to www.4m.net to the mini stock tech, the guys there can tell you exactly what is what.I just don't remember all the year numbers, pretty sure 1.9 flywheel from 88-91 escort and clutch and pressure plate from a late 70,s,mid 80,s granada with a 2.3 in it.I used the stock throw out bearing that was in the truck and it worked fine

Interesting. Here's a thread where a guy mentioned a couple part numbers link. I may consider doing this, as my clutch needs to be done soon and my flywheel is running out of teeth.
