I have a 1999 Ranger 4.0, auto trans, and today when I was bogging I was reving real high to try and get out of a hole and when I let off the throttle to shift to reverse the truck stalled with no warning, no shaking or sputtering then I went to start it back up and it started fine, sounded like it had a little tick and squeal then I drove it a bit and know the tick sounds like it went away so I was just wondering what might make it stall like that and if I have anything to worry about. Thanks

mmmmmm.......the squeal might have been a bit of wudder in a pulley i get that when i splash through puddles. dunno about the stall, be easier to explain away if it was manual

The stall is probably a sticky IAC. If you are heavy on the throttle and let off the hammer real fast it can stall the engine if that plunger doesn't move fast enough. I'd replace that to start.

The ticking was probably a lifter that drained out. When you stall the engine can keep turning for a rotation or two and push all the oil out of a lifter without the pump moving fast enough to replenish it. I wouldn't worry about the tick since it went away so fast.
