Hey guys, I'm new to TRS, and new to rangers (came from 1 ton power strokes). Sorry if i'm beating this torsion bar thing to death, but there's lotsa conflicting info on the site, I cranked mine on the weekend so I could put 32x10.5's on it. I cranked them way up so I could go get the tires, now that I see how the tires fit I'm thinking i can (and should) back them off a bit. So, once and for all: 1. how high do I want to go with a torsion bar crank? Right now I have almost zero reverse travel, I assume that is the whole suspension topping out, not just the shocks, and 2. Does it need an alignment so I don't kill my new tires (doesn't LOOK like it, but I know that doesn't mean anything). This is somewhat short term, I'll do the SAS in a year or 2. Thanks, by the way, you guys have already been a HUGE help since getting my ranger a couple months ago.

yes you need an alignment you raised the truck which kicked the bottom of you tires in they will wear more on the out side... and i would drop it down i little you can really mess some suspension up with them cranked up my buddie did it and tore up about 1000 bucks worth of damage

If the torsion bars are cranked, then the camber will be more negative (top of the tire in more than the bottom). Also, I don't think a SAS swap is possible with a torsion bar suspension (98+ Rangers). Usually its done on a TIB or TTB front suspension (83~97 Rangers).

sorry i think i was thinkin wrong ive always lowered torsion trucks and the top of the tire goes in towards the motor... crank em up and it kicks towards the fender sorry if i was wrong...:icon_confused: needless it still needs an alignment

Yes either way you will need an alignment. and The maximum reccomended height to raise the bar is 3". You shouldn't need to raise it that much if at all with only 32's though... If you have the torsion bars you have a 4x4 or a 2wd with 4x4 suspension and thus the same height. Mine fits 31's with ease and i could probably squeeze 33's with out too much trouble and rubbing.

As for an SAS yes they are very common on newer trucks just as much as older trucks. You are removing all of the old suspension components anyways and replacing them with the new solid axle.

Wasn't too sure. But anything is possible with a little cash to spend.

Keep the torsion crank to 1.5" or less, just enough to level the truck, and it will be fine. And yes you should get it realigned.

it is actually more common than an SAS to a TTB truck

its cheaper than a quality long travel lift for SLA ........ more reliable and still cheaper than a Diff Drop lift for SLA.

Actually considering SAS to my SLA chevy.

+1.

I didn't even think it was possible to go 3" w/o torsion keys. Thought 2" was the max.

Either way, I did mine 1.5". That's all you need to level it.

Hey thanks for sharing the post and the information is really good one..
