1997 Ranger 5.0 swap

I'm new to the forum and hope I'm asking in the correct section. I have a 1997 Ranger with 2.3, 5 speed trans with 200000 miles plus. Still runs great, but only a matter of time.
I plan to use a 5.o engine I have, but don't have a trans. Will the ranger 5 speed work, will it get the job done. I'm not a hot rodder, don't plan to do any serious driving with it, just want a nice conversion. I would appriciate any infor available, I'm a good mechanic, so I don't have a fear that I can't get the job done.

Eddie, no the ranger 5 speed will not bold up and also even on a stock build would not handle the power of a 5.0. I would suggest looking in the tech library, this is a very well documented swap and all the info is here it just takes a bit of digging, searching, and reading.

The trans that you are needing is the F150 2wd trans the 92-96 will worh fine and the Ranger slave cylinder will work with this combo just fine as it is the same as the F150 I have this combo in mine and it works great the F120 will also work but first gear is granny low

Not all of them are granny low. If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's the np435, it has the granny low. Mine came out of an 84 f150 plus is a hydroloic clutch. I general use the granny low gear in parking lots. Not the best transmission for gas mileage but great for trail driving. Mine came with an np208 behind it. My build thread shows more of it and it's location in the cab, 302 swap starts on page 66.
