1996 RAP

Has anyone tried to install an OEM Rap module? I picked one up with the wiring and antenna for $10 at the JY. I connected what I thought were the most important to see if it worked: Power(hot), Power(ACC), ground, Data link, and the 3 door lock/unlock wires. I cycled the key for 5 times and got nothing. Anyone have any experience with this?

If it has a data link connection, then you are hooking it into the network. So that means programming is needed for the truck to accept it on the network. That's about all I know. I have never messed with it, I don't know if you can do it in Forscan or not.

Correct. But some magic with the proper tool at the dealership, and it might be able to accept it. I know just a little about it, and it varies depending on the year. Is this the 96? That's awfully old to have a data connection on it.

As an example, I drive a 2009 f350 superduty at work. It does not have cruise control. But it is drive by wire (No throttle cable). If I wanted cruise on this truck, all I would have to do is install the proper steering wheel with the buttons on it, and then take it to the dealer and they would program it to have cruise as a option, and then the buttons on the new steering wheel would work and it would have cruise control.

Yes, it is a 96. The diagram calls it the data link connector. We commonly call it the OBD II connector.

So I reread the instructions for programming the RAP module. I was turned Off to Run 5 times. So I tried Off to ACC 5 times. It worked! It went into programming mode. Unfortunately all I have is a 2004 F150 Fob, which didn’t work. So I’ll have to order the appropriate one. I’ll let you know how it works.
