1994 Ford ranger engine bay question

Could anyone tell me more about these 2 wires that connnect to the air box what are they for etc.

You mean the 2 hoses?
One is a vacuum line the other runs to the vacuum valve on air intake

If so, they operate the air preheater just in front of the air box on the Cold Air Intake(CAI) tube
There is a vacuum valve there, that opens a flap, this causes air to be sucked in from around the exhaust manifold when engine is cold, this warmer air allows engine to heat up faster, it is basically an Emissions system as the faster an engine warms up the lower the emissions from tail pipe
But if you live in a Northern Climate it can shorten warm up time by a few minutes, :) faster heat in the cab, lol

There is a thermal valve, mechanical, inside the air cleaner that opens when cold and closes as it warms up, to close the flap to become a CAI again
