1994 Ford ragnger..Where's the coolant sensor

I have a 1994 Ford Ranger w/ a 2.3 lt. It runs kinda rough, running rich w/ poor milage.. about23mpg. The computer codes indicate 117, that is the coolant sensor so I bought one at Autozone. The problem is where is the darn coolant sensore located?

I meant to say " 23mpg " when it's running right! Right now only about 13mpg

it's in the heater hose

Well I can't remember which is which but you have 2 of them.

One that is in a T spliced in between a hose right under the coil pack on the passenger side.

The second is on the drivers side back of the block.

One relays to the gauge on the dash and the other relays the information to the ECU.

When that sensor goes out it reads it's default: -38 degrees

So it tries to warm itself up, creating that rich condition.

I'd be worried about what's downstream also. Lots of rich exhaust is bad for O2 sensors and catalytic converters. Just keep an eye out.

should be the one in the bottom intake next to the heater bypass.

in your '94 it is in the heater hose from the thermostat housing to the heater core, right above the alternator and below the coil packs. It is a multiwire sensor, I think it has 3 wires. If the T that the sensor is threaded into and the heater hoses are connected to starts to rot out on you and leak I have the actual Ford part number and it is available from them, it cost me 17 bucks to get it from them brand new.
