I just need someone to double check me. A front axle out of a 1992 Ranger will be a Dana 35, right? They didn't put any other axles in those trucks during 1992 if I am correct. About to buy one sight unseen, so I just want to be sure that this was all that was available.

As far as I know that's all that was available that year.

1989 was the last year for the full Dana 28. 1995 was the first year for the screwy "hybrid" 28/35 axle.

Thanks! Just dont want to end up with the screwy kind. I read the tech article, but just wanted to be sure

Yep, that's what I understand as well, I keep thinking about going to the twin piston caliper setup of a '95-97 but the easiest to know for sure is the early ones... You should be safe on a '92, I thought I heard '93 was the start of the hybrid? If it helps anything with a 4.0L should be a true D35

'93 was the 1st year for the hybrid setup. All '90 (from 12/89 up) through '92 Rangers will have a true D35 TTB. And if you are looking, that is the only source for non-hybrid oem 4.10 D35 diffs.

You may want to make sure that truck still has it's original D35, and that a previous owner hasn't swapped it with something else... I'd try to get the seller to snap pics of both the front & back sides of the differential housing just to be sure (you're looking for 10 (not 12) bolts on the front of the housing, and several reinforcing ribs on the back).
