Well my 1990 Ranger Super cab WAS made before 23 Oct 1989 as it does have the smaller 16.3 gallon tank. I ran it to the top of the RED E mark on the fuel gauge and then filled it up. It took 15.5 gallons before it overflowed.

I'd like to swap in the larger 19.6 tank. Is the swap easy? Do the existing fuel lines, sender, electrical connections all fit or do these need to be changed as well?

Also, do I need different hang straps?

Thanks!

Yah ,maybe. But there are way better things to be doing to a 25 yr old Ford. :D
I got sucked in by a wave of nostalgia and have thousands in parts and hundreds of hours into a 94 xle that drove very well except for a fried clutch disc. Had I been thinking ratiionally, I never would have bought it. I have sunk 3 times the purchase price into parts and the end is nowhere in sight. :D

Understand. Rangers can be like a hole in the ocean :) .

Purpose of the truck is for HAM Radios for County Emergency support (ARES) and a BOV if needed. The need is for as much on board gas storage. Seems like a simple mod and while 3.3 gallons isn't a lot of gas, it is 60 miles of driving which could be significant.

Did this swap in the opposite direction a few years go on my 91 (had a hole in my tank, swapped in the smaller one off a '89).

Things are a little hazy now, don't think I needed any different straps etc. The extra capacity is in a long 'tit' that runs forward under the cab. So the rear of the tank (with pump, hoses, straps etc is pretty much identical.

If you have access to a hoist, maybe use it. Little hazy now but somehow that tit runs over a crossmemer or something towards the back of the cab, Had a hell of a tussle to get it out and could have used extra wiggle room.
