ok i have a 1990 ford ranger with really loose steering wha can i do to fix this i just bought tje truck from the guy knew about the problem but dont have alot of money to get it fixed what can i do?
First thing is to find out where it is loose.
Steering box or tie rod ends.
Have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth while you look at the steering box, make sure box is tight on the frame and input shaft and output shaft are moving at the same rate, if there is a lag then box is bad.
If box looks good then look at the tie rods, if bushings are worn then you will see tie rod move back and forth without moving the front wheels.
You drive a GM and you herd a Ford, this has always been so, Ford trucks have never had what anyone would call precise steering, lol
However they do compensate for this by making really loud power steering pumps, not sure how these are of a benefit but I am not an engineer and they are "way smart", so I have to believe they know best
