Ok here we go!!! So I was driving the 89 ranger for a few months, and it was running perfect! I purchased a new truck & stored the ranger in my garage(not heated) for a year. I noticed that the truck seemed really good on gas hence that it seemed to be staying close to a quarter tank for a few days! I was thinking maybe the gas gauge was broke! I drove it right into my garage & never did a thing with it for a year! So today I went out to start it up & the battery was toast! It was like 7 years old & I knew I'd need a new one eventually! So I replaced it with a new battery, plugged in my block heater (Alberta has been super cold this winter), figured it would good for the engine), went out an hour later & pulled it over. The truck pulled over strong but would not start! I tried maybe 3 times pulling it over & nothing. I figured maybe I should put $20 bucks gas in the tank....so I filled up a Jerry can & gave the truck some gas! Pull it over again still a strong pull over but wouldn't start! Tried turning the key a head to see if I could hear the fuel pump....couldn't hear nothing. Looked at the inertia switch & the top button was pushed all the way down (which upon reviewing is where it should be?) reset it anyways & clicked it back down again. Pulled the key over again, strong pull over but still wouldn't start! The fuel pump is only 6 months old so I don't think its that, but I do think that its not getting fuel! I checked the fuel pump relay fuse under the hood & it seems fine(not blown). Really frustrated...this is the only thing I have to drive right now & its putting a strain on trying to make it to different jobs sites every morning!! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!:bawling:

ok a problem i had with these truck when removeing the battery is there is a single unplugable wire what connects to the battery or if its the original ground cable the wire runs into the cable end at the batter check to see if thats all there and is grounded proberly that runs your fuel pump and a bunch of other crap, try that see what happands

Ok so I see that the positive connection has a few other wires connected to it....they look a little dirty....are they the wires your talking about? Maybe if I unscrew them, cleaned them up & pop them back on, I might heard the pump cut it!! crossing my fingers!! Tks very much! I'll get back to you and let you know what happened!

i was talking about the ground it should be a a ground wire going to the battery

or wiggle all the wires to the battery with the key on and see if u hear the fuel pump and such come to life

I took off the ground wire & cleaned it up! Its looks brand new now. Put it back on but no luck with the pump cutting in yet! Wiggled it with the key ahead & still nothing! Opened up the distribution box and checked all fuses.....Alt 1 & Alt 2 were blown!!!! 50Amp & a 60Amp......there must have been something big wrong to blow those? The FP relay fuse is fine. I'm wondering is there another Fuel pump fuse around somewhere? I checked all the small fuses under the dash again...they seem perfect! The old battery that was in the truck was 1000 cranking amps (That's a little much & could have caused some problems) ......the new one is 550. Would there be any point to spray starter fuel to try and get it going, being that I don't here the pump? I also could buy more gas & hope that is why the pump won't cut in? Awwww frustration!

Correct the fuse thing, of course.

FP should work reguardless...but if it was super low, when parked it may have lost its prime...but, your right, you should hear it as you put the key to the on position.

Are you getting spark??? if you have spark...then try giving it a spritz of starting fluid while a buddy turns it over....see if it tries to run untill it consumes the starter fluid. this helps you see things under the hood during the start attempt and you might see a broken or loose wire you might not notice right off.

there also should be a fuseble/inline fuse link near the battery that maybe bad?

couldn't hurt to remove the TFI (AKA ignition module) and get it tested. located on the back side of the distributor housing, just under the cap.

double check all the grounds, there is several.

do you have fuel pressure on the fuel manifold for the injectors?? press the little tire valve like item...and see it you get any thing spritzing out...be ready with some rags.

being stored for so long...are you sure you don't have any vermen that haven't helped them selves to your wiring??

dump your clutch and let it snap back a few times.... the nuetral safety switch maybe have corroided contacts

I'm just about to go check for spark!

Not really sure how to do that??? Also in regards to spraying starter fluid.....do I just disconnect the other end of the air filter compartment (to the top part of engine) and spray the gas in there while a friend is pulling it over? I will try everything else you said!! I appreciate it!

Ok so I have spark, never got a chance to break out the starter fuel (working to much), ends up being dark when I get home! But what I did do was buy 2 new fuses for the alternator!! As soon as I poped them them in & connected the battery terminals they blew again?? Same two??? Weird? Any clue what it could be???
