1989 f350 7.3

There's a guy down the road from me right now trying to get $10,000 for a 92 4x2 with 200,000 miles. It does have the 7.3 and five speed. It's a beautiful bright red truck though. Not a pristine but decent early 90's diesel around here with a manual somewhere around 8,000 with 4x4.

I agree about a new truck a working guy can't really own a new diesel it but can own him if he wants.I know a couple people with the new Fords and they are very happy with the 6.7 and the truck in general.

No doubt they are a nice truck. I just like the pre "bolder than anyone has bolded before" trucks. Clean and simple.

I have no desire at all to own a diesel truck anyway.

I happened across my '97 F350 crew cab long bed powerstroke 4x4 5 speed (that description is as long as the truck, and not quite as wide as the turning circle...) for $5k because it has a salvage title and had 320k on the odometer, but it works pretty good and has served me well, no major failures yet...

I have a diesel because I tow my Ranger around from time to time, and my brother just started farming so we needed something to drag farm equipment around with, the thing weighs 8000lb and gets the same mileage as my Ranger (4000lb), and I've put as much as 14k pounds behind it without much complaint. Even with my Ranger on the 2500lb trailer heading to central Oregon I get somewhere around 14mpg, doubt I'd get that with a gasser...

The 97's are loved here and 350 solid axle even more.

If the OP tries the truck he might love it.A good solid diesel truck can really get in your blood. Some thing about 20 mpg's good power, good towing and full size there easy to like a lot.

Well it has the dana 60 front axle which is a big plus, also i went for a ride in it, it has quite a bit of power and sounds pretty good while doing so. Now does anyone think 6,000 is steep for a salvage title? He's asking 8,000 on Craigslist but letting me have it for 6

Yeah, I don't haul that heavy of stuff. My half ton pulls my biggest 5-6k lb tractor just fine or a dry fertilizer cart with a ton of stuff, as in an actual ton, not just a lot. It doesn't care that my 4 row planter is back there... I pretty much have a 10 acre (6 tillable) 1950's farm :icon_rofl:

Dad's '250 has a 460, it will pull about anything but that second fuel tank isn't there for decoration. But it did cost a lot less (more than several times less) than a diesel with twice the miles...

Oddly enough I think my 4k Ranger is about the toughest thing I have towed. It is basically a huge brick though. I can see where a diesel would be nice going long distance. Going to the exhaust shop 20 miles away (which was very hilly) and back I got a long fine though. Otherwise if I am taking the Ranger somewhere I would much rather drive it than just about anything else. :D

I have been shopping for a Mustang off and on and a salvage title drops the value pretty drastically sometimes. Like by half in some cases. You might ask your insurance how much it would effect the value for them. You pay $6k for the thing and a kid pulls out in front of you the next day and they give you $2k for it because of the title that will kind of sting. I am just pulling #'s out of the air for reference there...

Talking to insurance is a good idea before buying a car.I bought a Focus once because it was cheap Insurance company called it a sports car rates doubled from my old car.Old cars can get a salvage title over something pretty small body shop time is expensive old cars are cheap. If they won't give you anything if you crash the truck don't buy full coverage is an option too.

I get what your saying, I agree though. My dad never liked vehicles with salvage titles, and now I see why. Maybe I'll stick with the ranger, she's been dead reliable. Also would you guys think it's a bad idea to tow a 18-21 foot v8 powered ski boat with my truck?
