What is the diffence in the mustang 2.3L and ranger? I see a good price for a 1991 mustang 2.3L from a mustang online.
Will it be plug and play in my 1988. (mine has a cracked head)

i think in 89 they went to 8 plugs and DIS ignition, if its a 4 plug, it'll work

Thanks for the reply. Are the mustang and ranger 2.3,s pretty much the same? (year to year)

no, the changes made were at different times. The mustang went 8 plug in 91, ranger in 88 or 89. If your ranger has the 8 plug head, it is a direct swap. The 94 or 95 and up rangers have different heads, and the 98-01 2.5s have a different head. all as 8 plugs.

Thanks again guys. Mine is 4 plug head fuel injected.

If it comes with the wiring harness (at least for the coil packs, crank sensor and ignition module) you can make it work with your sensors and just use the DIS, wire it like THIS, and just keep your '88 computer and all sensors, compare the two engines side by side and swap over similar components, like you'll probably have to swap the throttle bodies but use the mustang intake manifold, I'd say drop the distributor in but it'll hit the intake manifold.

I'm running DIS on a '86 2.3L Turbo engine with a '90 ranger 2.3L engine wire harness, or will be again in a week or two once I get the engine put back together...

Well,,,,,,,,,,,,,it took this long looking. But I found a good 1988 2.3 for 200$ . I installed it last week. It runs great.
