I have a 1988 ranger 2.3 manual 2wd truck that is driving me crazy. I drove it saturday about a 1/2 a mile and it died on me and will not restart, It spins over fine.
But I have lost spark and my fuel pump is not energizing when I turn on the key.

A little history, it had been giving me issues (intermittent) prior to this failure, I would turn it off and it would not restart until it sat for 10+ minutes then it would crank and be fine.

what i have done to it so far with no luck.
new distributor w/ pick up coil & ing module
new EEC relay
Ing switch replaced 1 month ago
the grounds behind battery check ok.

What could I possibly be over looking? the CPU?
any ideas on what would cause me to lose both fire and fuel pump power?

Thanks for your assistance.

inertia switch cut fuel and power so rust part or cheek connecton and fuse power box

The engine turns over fine, No spark no fuel, ughhhhh.

if your Ignition Control Module doesnt have all the bolts in it, and the white conductive goo stuff, that will cause you not to have spark. as for your fuel issue, im not sure what that could be. maybe you can try banging on the tank to see if you can wake up that pump... its an old backyard okie trick, but sometimes it works....

There are electrical diagrams in the Tech Library, http://www.therangerstation.com/tec...les/Diagram_ElectronicEngControls2_3_1of3.JPG

Looking at that one, you should be getting 12v on the red wires) all over the engine bay with the key to Run. But you aren't so follow back to find why. Is the EEC relay getting power to its coil in Run? Ground?

So it's either a fuse, a ground, a broken wire, a bad ignition switch, etc.

I'd also do a really thorough visual inspection under the hood. Look for frays, rubs, etc. Grab ahold of harnesses and give them a good manipulation/wiggle and listen for relay clicks, fuel pump etc while in Run/wiggling.
