1988 BII Build

hope you have a plasma cutter or torch because that 1/4 in will kill chop saws , I just killed mine with that same metal :(

my grandpa has a torch, i'll use that or my trusty angle grinder....either way, it's gettin cut

i have an idea, i'll just go buy a cheap ass chopsaw from harbor freight and make the cuts, get the warranty for it and then i can take it back if it F's up

that is a good idea, i built my friend a bumper out of the same material, and well he killed my chop saw and killed two on his own lol, so ya that warranted is the shit lol your gonna need it , or a torch will do easy work out of it . either ways our trucks will never bend or brake that metal thickness lol hopefully:dunno:

i dont see myself getting in a situation where they could bend, i'm gonna wheel this truck, but not too hardcore.

i went and got the 69.99 chop saw from harbor freight yesterday. 14" blade and a 2 amp motor. i have to go slow, but it cuts the 2x2x.250 stock i'm using for my RA's. helps if i turn it. it's a POS, but it works.

i got a 1 year warranty on it for 11.99, if it f*cks up, i just take it in and get a new one.

i wish i'd had it for the radius arm brackets, it would've gone so much faster. the cuts would've been cleaner looking too, and square...lol.

i got a little bit done on the arms yesterday, gonna finish them up today. i'll put pics up after i finish up today

went to the metal supply place today, got myself 20' of 2x2x.250 wall :headbang:

the place is AWESOME.....they have a CRAPLOAD of different stuff. it was expensive though, $142 for it.

$7.10 a foot

but if you think about it, that's $21 a side for radius arms and $42 for both. WAY cheaper than buying them from duff or skyjacker. i'm gonna use it for sliders and a new trans mount as well. i'll probably have enough to use it on my bumpers too.

had them cut it up in four - 5' pieces so i could get them home.

oops, just realized i put the same pic in twice

wow, that size steel here is around $2 a foot!

mind if i copy your RA mounts a bit? :D

yeah, this place is expensive, but it's really the only metal supply place i've found around here. i'm gonna keep looking. i wish i only had to pay $2 a foot for it.

copy away....i rolled several designs i found on here into one to make mine. i hope there strong enough.

check out my build thread, i got a couple pics of my design in there lol

yeah, i saw it. copycat! lol, j/k

i changed mine around a bit today, added another piece of metal on the front. now it's a 1/2" thick

here's what i got done this weekend. worktime got cut short, my brother and his wife came into town from new orleans. we were hanging out with them most of the time. i havent seen him since xmas, so it was worth not getting to work on the b2 a lot.

they're just tacked together right now. plans are to hook everything up, get the caster just right and then tack them together again, remove them and then fully weld them.

the threaded end of the stock RA had a good 1/8" on all sides, i solved that by cutting up some 1/4" plate in 1/2" strips and welding that to the threaded end of the RA's. then i boogered the shit out of the welds, burned it nice and hot and real slow. also did 4 plug welds on them, they shouldnt be going anyhwere.

welded another piece of plate on the front of the brackets as well

i'm gonna put one more brace on this side, it's a little thin on the right side of the whole, it would probably be fine, but i'll feel better with it there

bad ass job , i might end up copying your guys idea for the extended radius arms, i got some metal left over from my buddies bumper that can be put to good use with radius arm extensions :D

^
thanks man, i'd def make some if you have the metal.

they're just too easy to make yourself, i could never justify paying Duff or skyjacker for theirs

i decided i'm worried about the RA brackets, where the arrow is pointing. it's only 1/4" thick (at the most). i have some 3/16" plate i'm gonna use to brace it up a tad

gonna put a piece in therer like this, should still be able to get to the nut

ya you made them look easy as heck to make so im gonna make an attempt to make them lol, but that will be now that my summer break is coming up, did you use angle iron for the ra brackets?:icon_cheers:
